He had happy.tail when we picked him up from GRA we haven't been able to keep it healed since! Keeps getting the bandage off but we are still trying! We will eventually be experts.

Nice work. I hope it stays on longer this time. Happy tail can be a nightmare, as you've discovered.

Now the issue is his mussle is causing marks on his face and Im concerned this will turn into sores. Will have to attach padding to the end of it somehow.

Sandra, nice job on the bandaging. I remember when Angel Ollie (and he was a cow doggie too) had split his tail ... it seemed to take forever to get it healed only because his tail never stopped moving which meant the wound constantly opened up again. It seemed that for most of his retirement life his tail was always bandaged. I had to laugh at this ... at one of the greyhound events years ago, some lady had strapped her hound's tail to his leg preventing it from continually splitting open. Good luck with Houdini ... hope he heals well.

someone told me years ago to line the muzzle with mole skin, you know the stuff you would put at the back of your shoe so your heels don't rub. I do this with our muzzles and it works greyt!

Hope Houdini is okay. Slappy had 'Happy Tail' quite severely and when we adopted him he was left with about 7-8" of tail. His adoption photos had a full tail but by the time we met he had hurt it so many times they just removed all that he could break. I don't mind as it hurts when you get hit with a full tail, and it just adds to his quirky character.

Thinking of Houdini and you at this very moment. Sorry to hear that the dressings alone didn't work out. Important to get it healed asap so this must have been the vet's best option at this point in time. Light had a partial tail amputation (perhaps 1/3) just prior to bringing her home in 2012. No problems thereafter... wishing the same for Houdini! Keep us posted.

poor Houdini, that stinks. Wishing a quick and painless recovery. Many scritches and cookies in the near future. Looking forward to hearing that all went well!

reguarding the muzzle, we had to keep Roonies on for a bit and had the same problem. My husband got curious as to why she wanted it off so bad and decided to take it off to inspect. Turned out, the muzzle was broken in one spot from the inside but not all the way thru. It was actually pinching her, we felt horrible. Couldn't hurt to check for breaks or rough edges, you will probably need it in the near future. hope this helps
