rubylottie14 - yes, the same dog went after the pug about 15 months ago. We didn't find that out until yesterday afternoon...that neighbour wishes that she reported it now...
Paul just talked to the vet @ Guelph OVC (she owns a greyhound too) and Bella ate some of her chicken tonight (I think she was sharing her dinner with the patients...LOL!) Apparently, Bella sneezed the feeding tube out of her nose (I think she did it on purpose)...Bella's wounds look much better and she looks better overall. The vet is very happy with her progress. Tomorrow, they'll check her blood again so hoping that it's improved. Judging by tonight's report, I think they'll be improved. We're cautiously optimistic that she'll be feeling a bit better by her 10th birthday on Dec. 1!!

Hopefully there will be small improvements every day now. I won't lie, I chuckled when I read that she sneezed out the feeding tube. She is not having any of that, she showed them she will eat on her own. Good girl Bella. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for keeping us updated.

Another update from OVC - Bella was a bit puffy this morning (a bit of pancreatitis, they think) but the fluid in her stomach that they found is clear and harmless. They're going to cut back the iv fluids a bit. She ate some ground beef this morning (YAY!) and they took her outside, which seemed to perk her up a bit. Can't imagine what she thinks of all this - what a week! Liver and kidney levels are looking better too.
They're going to try to refix the sutured wound on her chest that wasn't staying closed on Monday, if she's stable. They'd rather have it closed than try to rebandage it every day for a month.
P.S. Glad she's still improving, 'cause I picked up a few things for her @ the GRA Christmas Auction... ;-) Danielle

I am very pleased to hear that you are cautiously optimistic for Bella's recovery and we all feel the same way. One thing I have learned about greyhounds over the years is how quickly they bounce back and heal from what I think are sometimes pretty serious wounds. Please keep us advised of Bella's progress.

It is so hard to look at the pictures of the vicious attack on your beautiful girl. I'm so glad to hear that she is at Guelph and receiving the best care possible. Prayers that she'll have a complete and full recovery and soon back to her own sweet self.
As for the responsible party, I'm sure when you present them with the vet bills incurred as a result of their irresponsibility, they will be more diligent in controlling their dog. That dog should be muzzled at ALL times when outside, under the enforcement of Animal Control.

Those pictures break my heart. Too many irresponsible dog owners out there..I'm so happy to hear Bella continues to make progress in her recovery. Hugs to you and your girl.

I am not on this forum much anymore, but I am so sorry this has happened to you Bella.
I may have missed it, but...did you report this attack to the proper authorities???
If not, you need to do this ASAP!
My three greys were attacked by a loose dog a couple of years ago. This dog had chased us, barking and snarling, a few times before but never attacked. The owner was well aware of his dogs aggression but felt it was MY fault for walking past his house!!! The day the dog attacked us, thankfully my guys all had on their heavy winter coats ... the coat saved Nigels' butt from being torn to shreds. I did report the attack and the ByLaw officer charged the owner with a couple of offences and told me I should have reported the dog being loose and aggressive a few weeks before he attacked us.
A few days later a couple of neighbours thanked me for reporting the incident.
So Please... if you have not reported it, please do so. You may save another dogs life.
Best wishes for your Bella.....she's in good hands at UofG.

Hi All, Bella has to go under the knife again today to resuture some areas where the skin had died, and also going to put a feeding tube into her, Have gone to see her a couple of times, OVC is doing a good job, Bella is a perfect patient, but still refuses to eat. I drove out yesterday and bought a quarter chicken dinner from Swiss Chalet, hoping to get her interest, to my dismay, nothing. Have a bad feeling about surgery today, not sure why, but I will pray along with all the support and hopefully she will get through this. I reported the incident in person at Animal Control this morning, we will see how that goes. Danielle has some pics of Bella at the hospital I will post soon.
