Hi everyone,
Just wondering if I could get some advice on some dry food brands. Motley seems to be super sensitive. I have tried a few different brands but nothing seems to be working for Motley. No matter what kind, he always has a runny poo! Nothing changes for Mercury though, his are always fine haha.
Any suggestions on a good kibble that is also reasonably priced?

Have you had him checked for hookworms and other worms? They can cause runny poo. I wouldn't mess with food until you have had him cleared by the vet.

Glad to hear that your pup has been to the vet and doesn't have hookworm or other parasites. We went through the same dilemma that you are going through and found that NUTRAM (sensitive stomach) and a tablespoon or so of pure pumpkin did the trick for our two - now they have great B.M.'s !!! If you don't want to purchase the NUTRAM ensure that you get pure pumpkin and try that as it just might solve your problem. - Don't forget it is PURE PUMPKIN - NOT PUMPKIN PIE FILLING

Thank you! Im going to look into the Nutram. I've tried the pumpkin, rice and turmeric but they just dont solve the problem for this guy! It works for all of my parents greys tho!
Someone suggested Natural Balance?
Anyone heard of that?

I give my grey Iams healthy Naturals kibble which seems to agree with his stomach more than some other brands. Our previous dog had a food sensitivity of so we gave her vegetarian kibble for most of her life.

I give Sally Pet Valu's Performatrin Ultra Grain-Free with two tablespoons of pumpkin puree. She does very well on that. I didn't think the pumpkin was really doing anything for her so I stopped giving it to her for a couple of days and quickly realized it certainly is beneficial! It sounds like your boy has a super-sensitive belly. I hope someone is able to give you a suggestion that works!

If you go on Greytalk, you'll sooner or later see threads on this subject (and, of course, you can always search the current threads). A lot of people swear by Iams in the green bag. Specifically, this is Iams Pro-Active Health Adult Mini Chunks. A very few feed the same green bag in the Large Breed formulation but, although greys are larger, they don't have large breed heads/mouths so the Mini Chunks work better, IMHO.

Laara, why did your vet try to persuade you to stop the raw diet? I could never afford it, but I've heard it's supposed to be wonderful for the dogs.

Hello, I have my greyhound on Royal Canin as that's what she was fed while at Bill's so I thought it would be the best bet as she was used to it. She loves it and eats ravenously, however her poops are very soft. I am new to large greyhounds and I wondered if I should try switching brands or adding the pumpkin that I've read about. She has only beenwith us forone week, so nerves may be an issue. Any opinions about Royal Canin? Thanks Susan

We've had Michel for over 3 years now and the first year was rough getting her stools sorted out. Vet checked no parasites, etc. After much searching we tried Kirkland's kibble first bag didn't help then we went to Kirkland's Lamb and Rice, and the change was like a miracle to us -- no more 'pudding poop'. Our conclusion was that she is sensitive to chicken. She is fine with raw chicken necks and pieces but nothing with cooked chicken in it. We were interested in the Kirkland's Sweet Pot oat kibble but decided even though she loves the President's Choice Sweet Potato Treats we wouldn't change -- you know 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' thought. Our little Whippet, Isabelle, is doing well on the Lamb and Rice too. They both love coconut oil spritzed on their food.

Thunder eats Acana Regionals (grain free) and does well. I do recommend you watch their stools. Although Thunder's stool sample came back clear, I found evidence of tapeworms. Sometimes the samples don't contain the eggs that are detected. Just something to keep in mind. Good luck!!
