Lanny is on ACANA classics Chicken and Burbank Potato, he licks his bowl clean. His coat has a nice shine to it and he seems to be doing well on it, I was thinking of mixing in some ACANA regionals, grasslands or pacifica. I may try that in the future but so far he is good on the classic (it is a bit cheaper $51.99/13kg as compared to 68.99 to 72.99 for the regional). ACANA has great ingredients, and is a Canadian manufactured product. Our Lab is on Nutreco Lifetime Large breed and doing well on it, it too is a Canadian product, ShurGain made in St. Mary's Ontario and has decent ingredients too, it is cheaper than the ACANA, $42/30lb and our lab loves it, although we are trying to get her to lose a couple pounds (or more) right now. I dewormed Lanny for tapes too, better safe than sorry, it didn't cost much and Lanny didn't even notice the giant pills in his food dish, he just gobbled them down with his dinner.

Scully is on Nutro Grain Free and his poops are just fine. He also went through the stomach problems when he first came home and it took me a while to find something his tummy could handle, But this seems to work.
Good luck

Thanks for the info Owned by Summer. I took a look and it does not look good. I am not usually one who panics over things, but from all I read I will be changing food. Hopefully I can something that won't upset his tummy again.

I feed a very small amount of kibble, and Teague is very sensitive to it as well, but I have had a lot of success with ACANA (Prairie formula) as well. I really do love the food and company, but unfortunately it isn't cheap.
The Performatrin Grain Free at Pet Valu is also a food that the pups do well on and it is a very good ingredient list for the price.
Sometimes if you add some boiled rice and chicken into the food it helps to keep things firm.

That certainly is alot to choose from. I know what you mean about switching foods and the resulting accidents. Just make sure you do it very gradually. When I switched Lanny from Royal Canin to Acana it took me a good three weeks, I just added a couple Acana kibbles at a time to the Royal Canin until eventually it was all Acana, it avoided tummy upset. It might even be worth buying a small bag of the old food just to ensure a gradual transition. I have also read that some people do a 24 hour fast and then switch cold turkey onto the new food, I have never tried that method myself but it might be worth looking into. Also some probiotic yogurt and/or acidophilus might help the gut microflora to adjust to the new food. Good luck

Hi R .... check with your Mom, she has a goody bag for Motley to help solve his problems (probiotics, pure pumpkin). The most important thing to realize though is to change over gradually. This way, by just adding a little of new kibble to the old kibble, it doesn't shock his system by upsetting his digestive tract which in turn causes the "runs". Good luck with Motley.

We had a lot of problems for a long time with Rio...not runny poops, more along the lines of lots of terrible painful gas and lots of moaning and groaning on her part due to the pain...all night long so noone got any sleep. She couldn't eat she was in so much pain. We went through many different kinds of food to try to help her, and have finally settled on Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach (it has salmon and wild rice as the ingredients). We also make sure we put Probiotics on every single meal we give her, and are very careful about what treats she gets....no people food for Rio, and only treats we know will not upset her tummy. It has made a world of difference for her! The food helped her 75%, but the addition of the probiotics were what did the trick finally. She only has occasional typical greyhound gas now, and the periods of painful gas are rare.
I hope you are able to figure out a food that will work for your guy soon...it can be very frustrating...hang in there!

We had a fair bit of trouble getting Kaili adjusted to a quality food. Tried Iams, Royal Canin, back to Purina which she came to us on, big upgrade to Canidae and a couple of other higher end foods then someone suggested Taste of the Wild--that was the key!
She seems to have a delicate stomach though much less so on TOTW (we buy salmon), poop is perfect, she eats (not quite ravenously, never did), it's been ideal for her. Give it a go.

We did a lot of research into the quality of different dry dog foods before bringing home our new greyhound. We decided to go with the brand called Merrick, and we chose the Grain Free Buffalo-Sweet Potato dry food. Even our vet is satisfied with our choice. In Canada, you can pick this brand up at Pet Valu. Merrick has turned out to be an excellent choice. His coat was dull and his skin a bit flaky when we picked him up. In only one week he is looking sleek again. He has had no tummy troubles and his BM's are firm and regular. He also happens to love it! Visit www.dogfoodadvisor.com as a good starting point for researching dog food brands. Don't forget to check with your vet!
