Cleo needs a blood transfusion but the clinic is out of blood.
If anyone is willing to have their dog donate and you are in the London/Aylmer/StThomas area please contact me as soon as possible. It is currently 12:30PM Tuesday and our vets office is in Aylmer (open until 5:30pm) We would need your dog to come to our vet for the transfusion.
If anyone knows how to contact any of our friends in the Greyhound Springbank group that may be able to help, please help by making the call and give them our tel# so we can be in touch.

I spoke to Amy.
She contacted a GRA dog owner who is more than happy to help her out. Fingers crossed and many prayers for Cleo and the angel donor!
Joe: She has talked with Bill but all of Bill's certified donors are too old to give at this point. There has to be a blood type match in order for the transfusion to work (just like people).
Amy.. do call if you need anything.

Cleo had her transfusion late this afternoon. She did not have a bad reaction to the transfusion which was the first step. Now we wait 24-48 hours for the next blood test to see if the transfusion worked to bring her blood count back up. If it does not stabilize, then she will need a second one. If this is the case she will not be able to receive from the same dog twice.
Thank you sooooo much to Scarlet for her loving donation.
I really hope that the transfusion works so she can have the scope. If it shows that her bleeding has stopped and the stomach is healing it will be such a blessing. We are close to the end of our rope with $ and cannot go much further. Cleo's care is already passing $1000.00. With Dave unable to work due to injury and me on maternity leave we are so limited. I don't want to even consider stopping treatment. Its unreal how quickly the bills add up.
When situations like this come up it reminds us how important the blood donors really are. Without the help from Scarlett our options were limited. The blood clinic did not have any blood available and we had no idea how long it would have been before the clinic would have had blood available for her. Thankfully Scarlet's family was able to offer help before the vet closed for the day. We had a couple of other calls offering help and those were appreciated as well. Please consider supporting the dog blood bank. I am sure the need is always there.
I will update the post tomorrow with Cleo's progress.

I hope Cleo is doing better. How does a dog become a blood donor? Ty has no problem getting blood taken at vet's office doesn't flinch or anything ... so that may be something we could do. Tara

Thanks for the update Amy! Sorry I never had a chance to call last night, I was out most of the evening. I hope things are continuing to pick up. If I wasn't at work, I would have been most happy to help out as well... all of mine are seasoned blood donors. For those of you interested, the Veterinary Emergency Clinic in London is always looking for a "few good dogs" to donate blood. Give em a call and see if you can help

Is there any phone chain that could be used if an emergency like this comes up or can we set up one? Sorry just a thought. Tara

Cleo came home yesterday afternoon!!! She is a very weak doggie. She is sleeping a lot. The swelling continues to go down and she is eating the canned food well and taking her meds. The stomach bleed seems to have stopped. The transfusion was needed because her levels were so low and she was not regenerating the cells. The blood Scarlet gave really helped her.
As for a call list, I was thinking the same thing. I contacted Bill to help but I am going to compile a list at the next dog walk in Springbank. Anyone who wishes to add their name to the list is welcome to...totally voluntary of course. I realized I mostly only know the names of the dogs...not the people!

Way to go CLEO!!!!!!! We've been praying up a storm for you (and your parents). We will continue those prayers until you are back 100% to your old self. I really didn't think it was time for you to cross that finish line yet.
I totally agree that we need to initiate an effective call out list for emergencies such as this. Thank the good Lord that we at least have this site for such communications. Keep up the good work and get Cleo back on (all ) her feet!
