Dr. Jodi Mokler at the Brooklin Veterinary Hospital (just north of Oshawa/Whitby) is awesome with any animal and the only one I trust with Brin & Katzar. She has a number of other greyhound clients as well. She also works out of the Port Perry Veterinary Services location (in Port Perry of course ).

This is a great thread because I believe strongly you need to take your Greyhound to a greyhound savvy vet. They are different from other breeds and need to be treated differently. There's an article in this month's issue of Dogs in Canada by Dr. Jeff Grognet out in BC about exactly this. I go to a referral clinic in Scarborough - Morningside Animal Clinic and am very comfortable dealing with a clinic full of specialists.

We take Josey to the Mt. Pleasant/Davisville veterinary clinic in North Toronto. I think our personal vet is Alan Corber, but Josey has been so sick over the past year, we've seen just about every vet in the clinic. All have been amazing. The assistants and reception staff are also wonderful. Dr. Mark Speigel used to have a greyhound and knows the breed well. Another of the vets who we haven't dealt with regularly used to work with racing greyhounds in Boston. I could tell numerous stories to show how great the clinic has been with us and Josey, but instead I'll just say I highly recommend them to any greyhound families in the area. They will be our vet for all pets for as long as we live in Toronto.

Barrie area: Dr. Brian Westgarth-Taylor, at the Barrie Animal Hospital, www.barrieanimalhospital.com/main2.htmhe is greyt but semi-retired, so works only Mondays and Tuedays, which is highly inconvenient because my greys ALWAYS injure themselves on the weekend or late in the week. Our backup is Dr. Jen at Molson Park Animal Hospital on Mapleview right beside Petsmart. For those of you dealing with vets willing to learn about greys, here is some essential info for you to pass on to them: Susan Stacks article: www.recycledracers.org/FAQ/greyhound-blood-values.htmlI have the greyhound information packet as well, written by Dr. Feeman, please feel free to PM me and I will email it to you. It covers all the more unusual things about greys. Also, both Dr. Feeman and Dr. Couto responded to me within 12 hours when I had concerns with Lou's recent mishap. They are both wonderful vets and human beings, and I would reccommend emailing them regarding any serious problem you might have with your greys, as "grey savvy" up here is just not on the same level as "grey savvy" in the states, simply due to the small number of greys we have up here.

Ooops, forgot to mention, I can also vouch for Cliff Redfern at Wellington clinic posted above. He is fabulous, but an hour and a half away from me.

In Toronto (North York): Willowdale Animal Hospital, on Sheppard just west of Senlac. Our "personal vet" is Dr. Kate Hall - one of the most amazing vets we have ever encountered. Knows more about greyhounds than anyone we've met - in and out of the medical profession. And, her "Dawson" was adopted from GRA. (If I get seriously ill and the local ER can't take me, I want to be treated by HER. ;D ) HEY! That's our vet and we're in complete agreement. Dr. Hall is the best! She definitely goes above and beyond for her patients. She even gave us her home number...in case of emergencies. We had the pleasure of meeting Dawson last year. Dr. Hall knew our three were coming in for their annual visit and she brought Dawson in. He's a very handsome boy.

We use Dr. L. Josse at the St.Marys Vet Clinic here in St.Marys. He is very good and knowledgable about dogs. We had some serious allergies and other problems with our Lab as a pup and he made sure he exhausted every possibility as to what it could be. There is another grey in St.Marys aswell so he knows some about the breed. He is also very willing to learn more. When I call with a question he always responds right away. The prices are also very, very reasonable. Tara

We use Beaver Creek Animal Hospital in St.Thomas, but i am considering contacting Aylmer Animal Hospital and asking about their experience with greys, because Beaver Creek is on the pricey side...

I can personally recommend "Dr. Radditz" at the Aylmer clinic!! We have been taking our girls there and find him very caring and knowledgable (and takes the time to find out if he is unsure:)) We just saw him yesterday to have Scarlett's leg stitched up. We started going to him when we got Scarlett in 2004, on the recommendation of another grey owner.

We have done well at Blue Cross Animal Hospital at Broadview and Danforth. We usually see Dr. Tanney or Dr Eaglesom. They have been fantastic. Their prices are also really reasonable, and they have been great for emergencies. Hope and Hotwire both actually pull us toward the door of the clinic if we are walking by. They both love it in there!

I use Dr. Hoover at Northdale Animal Hospital (in London; Adelaide at Huron). He is an amazing guy. He prefers holistic approaches (he recommended we take a chiropractic/acupuncture route with Icarus since he doesn't want to keep him on any medications for long term) and he's conscious about "cost-effectiveness". Of course, it helps that we see him with Icarus every 3 - 6 weeks. LOL
He wasn't "greyhound-savvy" to begin with but I've been providing him with a lot of literature and information. I've come to trust him and his judgement. They only have a handful of Greyhound patients there. It's quite a small practice. They aren't cheap (about $50 for a visit) but they are an in city vet (cheaper than some others I've investigated though).

Thanks Greymouse! I will definatly be giving them a call to get my babies in there!!! Make sure that you ask to see Dr. Radditz, when you make the appt. I didn't do that the second time I went and ended up with the other vet. I'm sure she is a good vet, but I didn't feel as comfortable with her. I just felt from talking to her, that she doesn't have much experience with greys. Lois

Does anyone know about any vets in the Oshawa east end area?
We went to see Dr. Mokler in Brooklin and she was Greyt! Emily is in perfect health.
