Hi, I still miss this forum! I was just trying to catch up but still feel very 'out of the loop' about GRA and whats new at the kennel, and if there is a hound of the week, and seeing pictures etc. I just took a peek on Facebook and found everyone there. I understand it's time consuming to post stuff in both places... Facebook certainly is easier for photos, but I miss the dialogue here.

I too miss the dialogue. And I think the greyhound community becomes more supportive by having discussions and sharing photos here on the forum. Back in the '90's when the internet was just becoming organized, there was no information about greyhounds to be found, no apparel sites, no discussions re diseases or vaccinations, no information on racing, etc. Now ... there are so many sites about greyhounds, I find it impossible to keep up. But on a personal note, I hope the GRA forum remains alive and well.

I have read all the comments a few times and must sign in to agree... I, too, miss the activity on the Forum. I'm sure Facebook has it's advantages, but I don't go that route as I end up with the feeling that I'm always catching up and/or lagging behind in ongoing events and happenings. Perhaps it is just too fast or fluid for me. (Dating myself again LOL). But I love the ability offered here,... to check back and follow very coherently all the conversation and discussion around a particular topic. I have learned so much through this wonderful group, and feel I have come to know so many kindred spirits. Thank you to everyone who participates. I for one find a daily visit to the Forum makes my day complete.

Sadly, health and family issues have really kept me away from GRA Forum for maybe the last 4 years. When hubby and I first got Sierra in Aug. 2008, I was here it seemed every day asking questions, advice, making friends online, and enjoying everyone's experiences and love affairs with these 4 footed Angels.
We even managed to get out for the annual picnic in 2010, where I got to meet many members face to face, and am still in touch with Martha @ Hound Haven! <3
Having been through a long period of respiratory decline all my life with CF, I finally could not work as a school crossing guard any longer and went on oxygen 24/7. Computer crapped out soon after, so hard to keep up with the goings-on and many changes! I suffered from ototoxicity due to I.V. Meds and that caused balance issues that are permanent, called bilateral vestibular loss. I was then in hospital as lung function dropped to 15% in 2013; after 6 weeks I was approved for lung transplantation at Toronto General Hospital.
I was blessed to get the gift of life only 25 days later! Complications hindered my progress & recovery - between hospital and rehab to walk again, I was in a total of 177 days. The past 18 months have been difficult. Once home I was strong enough to care of my Mom, who lived with us and had end-stage COPD, for 10 months, but it took a lot out of me when she died last June. Depression overwhelmed me, and I lost interest in just about everything. We got through our first Christmas without her by volunteering to supply a Christmas dinner to the Legion Veterans who had no family, and no where to go. We made 29 elderly people very happy, and my spirits have started to lift since.
I got on here to read my old comments, threads, etc. and remembered the caring people and friendships I enjoyed. My husband and my Sierra really got me through the toughest times, and I hope now to be more of a participant here. I have been given a second chance (THANK YOU DONOR!) and intend to enjoy the pics, posts and people who share my love of greyhounds. I am happy to be back!

I haven't been one to post a lot either. I have a graying hound at the moment - a beagle/JRT cross that's almost 14. Since September, I've been working and going to school to finish my practical nursing diploma. I don't have one of these beautiful creatures but having one is definitely a goal I'm working towards.
