Oh Bella, I am so so sorry. That looks so sore. My heart cries for you and for what happened. I am sending out huge digital hugs to your mom and dad who are being so strong through all of this and working so hard to make you as comfortable as you can be. River sends digital face kisses.
I hope that the new medication and the appetite stimulant will help her feel better today and that maybe a she'll eat a little breakfast. We will be thinking of you all with love.

Thank you for posting those photos. I'm amazed that the large wound on her left side near her front leg/shoulder could be sewn up, I wouldn't have thought there'd have been enough skin to close the gap.
I think it's important for people to have the chance to see the photographs as it will make us all aware of what can happen.
I'd be beside myself if this happened to any of my greyhounds.
What an awful thing for you to have to cope with.
Sending you love.
ETA: having now seen the injuries and knowing the attack was unprovoked I too would want the dog to be euthanised. If that dog was mine I'd have it put to sleep.

Aside from my desire to comfort Bella and her family in some small way, I also want to say that I am glad that you posted the pictures. It's one thing to read about an injury but another thing entirely to see it, a lesson that's been reinforced many times for me as student in applied health sciences and rehabilitation.
I would like to take these pictures and show them to all the people in my neighbourhood who insist on walking their dogs off leash, especially the woman who does not even bother bringing a leash with her when she walks her German Shepherd on my street. Just because a dog has never attacked anyone, or any dog, does not mean it lacks the capacity. In my opinion, if it has teeth, it should be on a leash. At the very least.
These pictures, graphic as they are, raise awareness about the issue and I am thankful you shared them.

Oh how horrible. I am appalled by the damage done to Bella. Poor poor girl... and how unbelievably stressful for you.
I have been debating to myself on phoning my local SPCA with complaint of a particular husky that is regularly walked off-leash. I always cross the street or detour if possible. When the dog sees my pups, he stands very stiff and fixated on them...obviously arousing tension in my two. The owner laughs at any comment to "leash up". But having seen this thread, I hesitate no more...your situation and photos bring to life how dreadfully serious this is and how important it is to take up some action and do what we can to nail these ludicrously arrogant, ignorant, and/or self-interested dog owners. I am phoning as I write.
Continued thoughts and prayers for all.

She REALLY needs to eat. 4th day isn't good. How about a cheeseburger from McD's?!?!?! No hound ever puts their nose up for that. And down it with fries!
I can't bear to look at the photos - thanks for posting a link and a warning instead of embedding them.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear this! =( I've been in this situation before, the only difference was that it was with my Collie, she had so much fur that the attack did such minor damage. They never offered anything but a small "sorry" before walking away. I'm glad to hear that these people came to you and offered support for this. Still, I think you should report it for sure! I hope Bella recovers quickly! <3

OMG, the damage to sweet Bella. I wasn't envisioning it quite so bad. I'm glad I and others said to report it -- and seeing the pictures, I sure would! With that amount of damage, I'd want that other dog euthanized. And Daylight, good for you for reporting that husky. You may have saved your own dog or even someone else's dog from going through this. Why are some people so CLUELESS?

Hi all,
Well - desperate times call for desperate measures....I was researching dog supplements today thinking there must be something like 'Ensure' or 'Boost' out there for dogs. I came across a site that mentioned baby food for some reason...I thought that might work if I stuck to the beef and broth or chicken and broth/sweet potato and turkey type things. I used a syringe to squirt it in Bella's mouth and though she was pretty stubborn, I think she ate about 1/3 cup or so. YAY!!! I'll do more later tonight. She still seems so down though....

Glad to hear she ate! Growing up, I had a siamese cat that would not eat following a surgery. Baby food was a saviour as it was the only thing she would eat. Bella's whole world has been rocked, and it's hard to imagine how the attack and recovery has affected her psychologically. She is very fortunate to have a family like yours to stand by her! Continued thoughts and prayers! Kathryn

I am so so sorry to read of the attack and I pray that Bella will recover. It is a horrible shock to have your dog attacked for no reason whatsoever (and your pictures are quite graphic as to the extent of the injuries) and undermines any confidence you might have walking in your neighbourhood in the future never knowing what is going to throw itself at you and your dog. I strongly urge you to report the attack to the police and the Humane Society or whatever authorities you have in your area as many others have suggested. Yes, it's nice that the owners are footing the bill and have said they are sorry but it's not enough. It might be someone's child next time.
My dog was also attacked a couple of years ago by a loose dog (who I think was protecting the children of the family playing on the sidewalk) as we walked by minding our own business. Luckily no major damage but she was fearful for a long time afterwards even walking on the other side of the road and I carried a tennis racket for months after the attack.
There are some extremely irresponsible people that own dogs and don't seem to care when letting dogs run loose despite bylaws to the contrary in public places. I have no compunction whatsoever about telling people to leash their dog if we meet them on a public path. Be prepared to get a load of guff from the unenlightened ones. Always carry your cell phone to get photographs if they turn and walk away after an incident if necessary. And PS I now have an American Bulldog puppy in my neighbourhood whose owner swears he is a lover not a fighter and walks without a leash. To me, he is an accident waiting to happen.
Sorry this is so long but I feel really bad this has happened to you and your precious Bella and I hope that everything will work out well for you and the family. Helen

I agree with Helen. You should be calling AC to make a report. They will go see the owner and at the very least that dog should have a muzzle order on it - meaning that EVERY time the dog leaves its house it wears a muzzle. You owe that to the next person that dog goes off on.

I'm just getting caught up here ... I am so sorry to read about your sweet Bella. I was amazed at the extent of her injuries, that poor girl. I realize Bella was on Tramadol prior to the Gabapentin ... both (particularly the Tramadol) can cause an upset stomach and can get to the point of feeling like an ulcer. I wonder if this internal upset/pain may be interfering with Bella eating. My Bridge Angel Frankie was on both prior to passing from cancer .. my vet emphasized feeding yogurt to coat the stomach prior to giving the meds. Just a thought.
I so wish Bella soon begins to feel better. Sending loads of hugs and prayers for your sweet girl.

Well, how is Bella this morning? Did she eat any of the baby food? Whenever any of my Greys have shown lack of interest in eating I have always gone to a few old faithfuls: fried ground beef mixed with cooked brown rice, scrambled egg, can of sardines (packed in water), canned salmon, and of course, Plain Oldfashion Timbits. There is also some very good quality canned dog food on the market these days. If you live near a Pet Value I find their staff to be very helpful & knowledgeable. I am glad you took photos as evidence to show the authorities. As much as I am sure the owners of the bulldog love their pet, measures must be taken to prevent another incident. Hugs to you, what city do you live in? Can any of us on the forum be of any help to you to pick up food for Bella or your family or just sit with her if you have to be out of the house? I am sure there are many of us that would lend a hand if you need.
