On Jan 12th 2013 we helped Troy cross the bridge. I cannot put into words how much he meant to us and the joy he brought into our lives. The reason for the difficulty and time it has taken for me to make this post.
Troy gave so much to us from day one and ask nothing in return. He was the perfect big gentleman. He just wanted our love, his homemade dinners and his daily walks. The one thing he looked forward to every day with much excitement was his morning walk and if he didn't get it soon after waking he would pester like crazy. I walked him and the rest of the gang for at least 1 hour before work since the day I brought him home. Troy enjoyed the walks most of all, he took everything in, and would focus on the largest clumps of grass to pee on. It just doesn't feel the same without him.
He was very stoic and courageous in his battle against Osteosarcoma. We lost him just short of reaching 12 years of age.
He was perfect in every way! We went to the kennel on Sept 19th, 2006 to just take a look. I wanted a small male and not a brindle for some reason. Going in totally blind we let Bill pick some pups. He said what about Lightning and I can remember this big beautiful brindle calmly sit up in his cage. He was beautiful and at that moment he stole our hearts. The final test was his walk with Leopold which he passed with flying colors. We didn't look any further. Totally unprepared we where driving home with Troy in our back seat. One of the best days of our lives!
Bill, thank you so much for giving us our boy!
Here's a few (maybe many) pictures of Troy.
We love you Troy, Lightning, Boney Ass and "Number One". You will always be our Number One and first greyhound!
I miss your special greetings at the door as you rubbed your face all over me and you following me everywhere in the house. You would be laying beside me as I typed this post, I know you are in spirit.
Troy's first day home. He was like a father to Leopold who was only 3 months old at the time. He helped him with his potty training and showed him how to be a man. They clicked the minute they met.
Troy and angel Mary. Troy missed Mary terribly when she passed away. I think they where husband and wife. Troy and her where friends at the park before we where lucky enough to adopt her. I hope they are playing together at Rainbow bridge.
Troy was great with my nieces and nephews, all kids and small fur animals. My nieces grew up with him in their life and miss him dearly. The girls lived just around the corner so they would always go on walks with us. He always gave them a hop and rub upon greeting! and off we'd walk.
Troy left the track at age 5 and we adopted him shortly after. He was quite the racer with 159 races under his belt and a few stake races. I like to think the best and easiest race was the one into our hearts!
Troy loved people. He would go to the park and have to greet everyone. Such as social butterfly. We loved the fact that he was independent, strong and a leader.
I miss you Troy You will always be a big piece in our hearts that will never go away.
Thank you for being the best first greyhound ever! I was blessed to have you in my life!
