Jack has gotten really bad with thunderstorms recently! Amidst heavy lighting and thunder the other night, DH and I awoke to find Jack (all 90 lbs of him), in our room shaking like a leaf. We might not have even noticed him... that was until he decided that best way to comfort himself was to shove his head underneath DH's pillow.

That storm was quite bad. Uber's mildly afraid but even he was a shivering mass between Rene and I when it passed through. It was quite violent.
Scritches for Jack.. poor darling.

Poor boy.
Betsy doesn't like thunderstorms much either, although she's much better than she was. Now her least favourite thing is fireworks.

one of our borzoi is terrified of thunder and fireworks and usually cowers in the bed when the noise happens. We dread long weekends that involve fireworks and have to feed her long before they start or else she won't eat. The others and the grey are fine with the noise.

Hope shakes and hyperventalates. She is bad with thunder, fireworks, motorcycles, cars with loud speakers, and anything that sounds even remotely like thunder. She also starts to panic if she sees a flash from a camera or hears water sprinklers in the evenings. She is fine with these if it is sunny out. We are going to try to desensitize her by using that thunder storm CD, and comforting her with the canine lulibies CD. We are also looking into the Thunder Cape. Rescue remedy is very handy for stormy nights. Hope sends scritches to her fellow thunder=phobes!

My worry is that his fears have been gradually getting worse. DH and I try not to comfort him because we don't want to reinforce/validate his behaviour. We're also thinking of looking into the Thunder Cape. I've heard of the CD's too, but had not given that any serious thought. If you happen to try one of the CD's you mentioned, I'd be curious to know how they work our for you.

I don't even think I've opened it. LOL

I'm not sure comforting would reinforce the behaviour. We comforted our borzoi at first and then just ignored the behaviour and nothing has changed. She just doesn't like loud noises. She doesn't even like the coffee grinder. Maybe her hearing is more sensitive than the others.

Oscar was thunderphobic (and fireworks phobic). Melatonin did just enough to take the edge off it.
