Hello! I'm very excited about having the opportunity to adopt my beautiful gentle sweet L's Treesee today. Since our names are so close to being the same, her name will be changed to Sierra. I will get her in about 3 weeks - which I'm sure will seem like forever - but will give me the opportunity to get her everything she needs when she arrives in her 'retirement' home. Any suggestions are welcome, I know I have a lot of reading and prep work to do for her! It was so hard to leave her today! Attachment Deleted

Awwww, congratulations! We met Sierra Sunday morning, she is SUCH a doll! Every time we looked at her she'd be roaching around in some weird way, I think she was an contortionist in a past life. You are going to have SO much fun with her!

Thank you all for the kind words! I am so looking forward to Sunday mornings at Masters and Hounds and all the learning I am going to do! I feel so very lucky that Sierra chose me as her new mom! I am currently prepping my home to share with her (it's been a while since I've had to share my space - I hope she likes it!)
I'm also lucky that I live only a couple blocks from work so she will be totally spoiled with 3 to 4 walks a day. And I love that I was able to find videos of her racing and seeing her beauty in action - it certainly helps visualize the pure athletic ability of my baby.
I have read that leaving a radio on for her will help her feel comfortable adjusting to her new life - has anyone experienced this? The most she will be alone on average is about 4 hours at a time which I'm sure will be spent sleeping. Also any tips on how to introduce training her to use stairs would be most helpful. I live in a condo with an elevator so I will use that and slowly introduce stairs to her. I have set aside a really good amount of time to spend with her - I have saved up almost 2 weeks of vacation to use here and there to help her adjust as best as possible. I am also very lucky that my close network of friends are already welcoming her into their homes and realizing that where I go she will be with me. My parents have a jack russell/border collie/greyhound mix that I will very very slowly introduce her to so any suggestions for that introduction will be helpful - their dog is still very much in the puppy stage and is a jumper but listens to me very well. I have a sister that has a senior lab that I am not nearly as concerned about but realizing the sensitive nature of greys I am putting Sierra's protection first.
She has no idea how spoiled she is going to be....within reason of course!

We leave a radio on when we leave. You'll hear that everyone has had different experiences with stairs (some learn quick, some slow, some not at all! LOL!). We found that putting the front paws on the first step and then helping move each paw up the stairs helps the pups get the rhythm. If you give them too much leash though, they'll leap! LOL!
You're lucky to have a good span of time off - it'll allow you to get to know your girl and do some alone training as well which will help when you go back to work.
Retired Racing Greyhounds for Dummies is a greyt book to get you started and this forum is a wonderful resource...
Can't wait to see pics of her when she gets settled!

What a lovely name you have chosen for your new beautiful girl. It quite clear to see that the two of you will be spoiling each other and isn't that just the way it should be. The wait will be painful for sure but the journey that lies ahead will be one you will remember forever and will be one of the sweetest journey's you will ever take! Congratulations on the next best chaper of your lives! Martha p.s. it goes without saying, we LOVE pictures!!!

Yay! Yay! Yay! Sierra is such a pretty girl - congratulations! There is a section in this forum of recommended reading which provides plenty of suggestions to occupy your waiting time until she comes home to you! Then of course there is always shopping to do for beds, toys, collars etc!
I have always left a radio on for my girls when I go to work - not sure if they care but I know one always plays at GRA kennel so I figure they are used to it.
The countdown begins for arrival day!

Just wanted to say how overjoyed we are to read about your adoption of beautiful Sierra (lovely pic too!)! She sounds like such a darling Yes, the wait will seem like forever but will allow you time to get ready for your new baby. Sierra will truly be so unique from any dog you've ever owned or known in the past, Teia continues to amaze me every day that I get to spend with her. We are 'rooing' for both of you as you start this exciting journey together! PS. I was blown away how fast Teia learned the stairs - moving one paw at a time up each step seemed to work well for her (and lots of treats of course). I always leave a radio on for my pups too, I figure it doesn't hurt (unless they don't like my taste in music, lol). Keep us posted on arrival day!
