If you have adopted a greyhound who raced in Alabama, we welcome some pictures and stories about your new addition in this forum. Hopefully your greyhound's previous owner/trainer will see and respond!
If you owned or trained a racing greyhound that came up to the GRA to be adopted into a new home, please feel free to post and ask about your greyhound. Hopefully their new people will see the post and respond!
Track mates can also meet up this way, and even litter mates!
*You are not limited to posting in this forum, but this forum is limited to Alabama hounds in order to make it easier for parties to find each other.
Thanks, and have fun!

I'll get the ball rolling here- we adopted RWC Run Dan D.O.B. 3 Jan 2008 from GRA. He finished his racing career at the track in Birmingham and we adopted him in October of 2011. We're pretty sure that he was bred by Rondis Cavender in WV and is the offspring of Coldwater Konow and Gable Zinfandel. We now call him Boaz, but he has many nicknames like Stinky, Moose, Goober-head and Mr Bum-nibbler. His litter-mates are: RWC Run Cleo, RWC Run Garnet, RWC Run Lola, RWC Run Mollie, RWC Run Richard and RWC Run Ott. We were able to get in contact with Run Lola's new owners and she is doing well. They sent us a couple of videos; it was really cool to see her playing and being just as happy as our guy! He was with Bill at the GRA for about 6 months before we got there as apparently he was pushy and something of a troublemaker. We were a bit worried about him at first- there was a bit of a 'discussion' that we had to have about who the boss is, but he's just great now He's a silly, bouncy, blonde boy, weighing in at a little under 100lbs. Our vet says he is like the Arnold Swartznegger of the greyhound world and is amazed at how healthy he is! He's a great big goofball and loves nothing more than lazing on the couch or playing with his Daddy. He can be a real gentleman with kids and is tremendously loving and caring. I am so grateful to the folks who raised, trained and handled him, because I couldn't imagine a better dog! I'd love to meet anyone who has experience with the Birmingham track or the dogs that raced there.

Yay! This is exciting. I was kinda jealous when I saw a board for Florida dogs and was hoping I might see one for those of us with dogs from Alabama! We were chosen by Slappy- Slapstick Drive in December of 2010. His DOB is 28 Oct, 2007. I was able to contact the family that adopted his momma, Noah's Smelldog, but have not heard about anyone else in his family. He raced at Victoryland but wasn't super, I think it's because he was just in a hurry to get up here to Canada so he should become a retiree. He gave us a scare with his health when we first adopted him, but since we have his food figured out he is doing wonderful now. He was the only male we looked at that liked all of us, we went with all our kids so there were 8 of us, lol. I had seen the available dogs and remarked on what a funny name Slapstick was, with no idea that he would be the one to come home with us! He is such an amazingly sweet and gentle boy, I can't imagine life without him in it. He helped me through the loss of both my parents in 2012, letting me hold him and cry every day when I would come home from the hospital/hospice. He has taught me so much about patience and understanding and also the importance of routine. Because of him I have learned so much about caring for pets that I have taken quite a few courses and am now hoping to pursue a career in pet care!

Awesome!!
We adopted CTW Curb Service from GRA on December 30, 2011. She raced her last race in Birmingham on December 14th, 2011. I've actually been in contact with Janele Peck who owns Clear The Way with David Peck. She's a lovely lady and seemed so happy to hear about one of her pup's retirement.
Sally (as she's known in her retirement) has brought so much joy to our family. We have nicknamed her The Duchess because my two sons will bend over backwards to make her happy. But as much as she loves the boys, she is a mama's girl!
She's very friendly and outgoing. She loves everyone she meets! She loves playing frisbee, catch, laying in the sun, digging in the dirt and, of course, sleeping. But goodness is my happy girl stubborn! She will NOT use the stairs in the house. She will stand in front of you and cry if she wants to sit on the couch where you are! If we're walking and she's had enough, she will just lay down in the middle of the road and will not budge. If she is bugging to go outside and then sees that it's raining, she will then REFUSE to set one foot out of the house.
She's a petite girl, weighing 60lbs - which is ironic since she is highly food motivated! She loves DQ ice cream, pancakes and timbits. She has been known to steal entire pounds of butter, blueberry mini-muffins, entire sandwiches, and seeks out chocolate as though her life depends on it.
I would love to be in contact with anyone who worked with my precious girl at the track in Birmingham!

I adopted Scully in December 2011, he also finished his career in Alabama. His last race was November 11th 2011, Remembrance Day. He never won a race but did place second once. I have watched all his races and it is easy to see why. He is to much of a gentleman to push is way through. If another dog wants to go first he just let them.
This has come in very handy in his retirement, if we are both heading for the hallway he will actually go into a room to let you past then he follows quietly behind. He never goes in front so there is no fear of tripping over him.
He also came to me knowing how to fetch a ball and I would love to know who taught him this trick. He gets his exercise this way and outruns all those Labs at the park. He is a better retriever than the Retrievers.
Scully was his call name so we kept it. His real name was Skelligs Cry. Mother Lonesome Dove. He was born in Texas but raced at Birmingham. He is timid and shy of new people and we love him for that and all the joy that he has brought to our home.

We have had Great Boss for almost a year now, but he was in a previous home for years before us. He is our first dog, and let me tell you... No other other dog will ever in a gazillion years be as special to us as he is. My children (3 and 5 years) adore him, he is loved by everyone He raced in Birmingham in '09, as well as Texas. That was some time ago, but any info on him would be priceless. His racing name was Great Boss; Father was Algoa Boss and mother was Great Look. DOB July 20, 2005. He is a brindle, smaller male. Hope someone remembers him

We adopted Roc A By Isabell from GRA in Sept. 2009 and took her home October 3rd, 2009. Roc A By Isabell now goes by Izzie. Her D.O.B ia April 11th, 2007. Izzie is quite the little character! We love her to bits! She is my/our first greyhound and definitely my heart hound!! She knows when you're feeling blue and comes to you to cheer you up. When I have been home sick, she sleeps on her bed in our room with me and gets up every so often and "checks" on me, then goes back to bed. She used to steal my husbands blue work pants and make a nest/bed and sleep on them. She likes to be burped!lol. She dislikes getting her toes wet and will jump over puddles! She grows more and more each day. I couldn't imagine my/our lives without her! Izzie has raced at 3 different tracks. She ended her career in Alabama. She raced first at Valley Race Park in Harlingen, TX (from November 29, 2008 – Mar.29, 2008), then at Victoryland Race track in Shorter, AL (from April 22, 2009 – May 2, 2009), and she finished at the Birmingham Race Course in Birmingham, AL (from July, 2009 – Aug. 13, 2009). Those are rough dates because some of the things I have come across – the dates and locations of races overlap with other tracks. On Greyhound Database and Trackinfo there are only records of her racing at Victoryland and Valley Race Track. I managed to find some of the rosters from two of the tracks and discovered that she raced a handful of other races that are not listed otherwise. I did notice that there was a 3 month period where Izzie didn’t run any races (no races at all in Feb. 2009, and most of March 2009, no races in June of 2009). I am wondering why that is. – did she have an injury? Is there another reason? I have tracked down one of Izzie’s siblings and another sibling’s parent found us! It has been great sharing things with them and chatting on Facebook. Izzie’s siblines/littermates are; Roc A By G Wiz (Male,R) – in contact with – now goes by the name of “Planck”, in Halifax, NS. Roc A By Maleman (Male, RBD) – in contact with – now goes by the name of “Hank”, in Chicago, IL. Roc A By Lover (Female,RBD) – was adopted out of a Chicago, IL. group - gave the group my info, but no luck Roc A By Smurf (Male, RBD) – was adopted out of a Chicago, IL. Group - gave the group my info, but no luck Roc A By Boomer (Male, R) , Roc A By Gym Bo (Male, RBD), Roc A By Tin Cup (Male, RBD) – unsure of their whereabouts. Izzie’s breeder was Harold Miller and her original owners were Harold L. Miller and/or John Henry (Mr. Henry is deceased – NGA informed me of this when I was applying for her ownership through them). From her Birmingham roster, She was apart of the Gendron Kennel and her trainer was Elizabeth Keevin. From her Victoryland roster, it was the Kushner & Midnight Kennel and her trainer was Jake Kushner. I have never been able to locate any contact information for her trainers. I would LOVE to touch base with one of her past trainers or anyone who knew my sweet girl. Love to see photos of her as a pup, or learn anything I can about her past and/or her siblings – anything really. Thank you for creating this board. I think this is great

We adopted Cruzin Beth from Michigan REGAP in July 2013. She raced at Mobile Alabama throughout 2012, winning once and coming second twice. She was one of 10 pups, born on September 4, 2009 - all named Cruzin... Ace, Kate, Mary, Cupcake, Major, Beverly, Bob, Ellen, Rhythm.
We live in Toronto, and we just found two of her sisters while exploring on-line. We have connected with their "parents" and are looking forward to meeting them on our next trip to Michigan.

Hi all, our little girl Deedee (Deja Poo) raced out of Alabama and ran her last race January 2013 after only starting in November 2012 ( I believe) . She is a high energy pup and loves to run and race around. When we watched her races you can see that she prefers to run to the outside, some times the far outside LOL. Deedee is just so loveable and loves to play with her stuffies and our darling Boots - Boots (SE's War Boots) and Deedee picked us the same day. Although Boots did not race at Alabama - in fact it does not look like Boots raced at all! Our boy is more of a spectator than a runner - don't get me wrong, he is active as well and loves to play, (especially with his stuffies), he just stands and watches Deedee run like a mad woman. He is Mr. personality and know that people are put on this earth just to love him he is extremely affectionate. Both of them are a joy. Boots just turned 3 and Deedee will be 3 in May. Turns out that our Pups share a Grandpa!.

I too have an Alabama retiree. Jedi Ginger raced at Birmingham in 2012 and then went to GRA where we fell in love. She was never a great racer and we have seen video. She has 2 sisters still racing in Texas and a litter of half siblings now racing. Have found a lot of information about her and she loves to run in the paddocks and arena at my horses farm or visit my work place - a large animal vet clinic. Ginger has been an excellent spokes dog for her breed. Best of all she is very loved and well adjusted to non race life!

Our little TNJ RAIN raced at Birmingham from July 2009 to April 25, 2011; a total of 65 races and she won 2 but had a number of 2nds and 3rds. She was on our couch by the end of May 2011. We have access to the grounds of the local gun club where there is a huge amount of open grass and she runs on that almost every day - usually at full gallop - so she has never lost her conditioning. Our other greyhounds were Devies Redstorm, known as STORMY and Cajun Blond but known as SUNNY. Because of our "Weather" theme, Bill told us he had a RAIN dog who had just arrived. She was only a "puppy" to us who had previously adopted only Broodies, but she sure injected a burst of energy into Sunny. (Stormy had been PTS in March 2011 due to many age related issues.) Rain is known as SILLY PUPPY. She never walks - she either runs or bounces. Getting her collar on can be a real struggle. She will play with ANY breed - there is no greyhound stuck-upedness with her. She also loves every human she meets, regardless of age. She has her grandfather's ears! (Gable Dodge) - They stand straight up when something catches her interest.
Her brother TNJ KEEPER came to GRA in the same shipment and he was adopted right away but his parents have never been on the Forum - too bad.

I'll pass on the message to everyone about Deja Poo - though we called her Pooh Bear. I can't promise that I/we know all the B'ham houndies, but we know many. Most come straight from the race kennel, into the truck, and right up there to y'all and we haven't met them until they're in front of us. Once in front of us, we give them a dewormer, a Capstar, label their muzzles and collars, and put them on the truck and go.
As for CTW Curb Service - her trainer/s are Andre and Donnelle. Two great guys who have been at B'ham for years. I'll pass along a hello for ya.
GOOD news is that we have finally gotten our new hauling van, Ellanore, at the track. We still have to install crates in her. We're going to build new crates for this van, as we are having to make several new modifications to it that "Gertrude" (Gertie) didn't have.
Rest assured, we are hurrying because we know everyone is anxious for us to get back on the road again.

We have adopted 3 Alabama retirees….all CTW pups:
CTW Tyra Time (now called Tiana) Sire: CTW Legendary Dam: CTW Time For Me CTW Excaliber (now called Merlin) and his littermate, CTW Mirage (now called Mirage) Sire: CTW Legendary Dam: Great Lee
We adopted Tiana and Merlin in 2010, and Mirage in 2012. They are all wonderful pups. Tiana is a very shy, spooky girl, whereas Merlin and Mirage and more outgoing and friendly. We have had no contact with any siblings, owners or trainers, and would love to hear any information anyone has about their careers.
Thanks!

Both our girls raced at Birmingham track. We adopted Addison in November 2011. Her race name was CTW Buy Buy Buy. Her date of birth is October 18/2007. Her mom is CTW Outa Da Box and her dad is CTW Legendary. Her last race was August 31/2011. We adopted Mayleigh in August 2012. Her race name was MRK Buy Bust. Her date of birth is September 28/2008. Her mom is CTW Ravishing and her dad is San Tan Riffraff. Her last race was April 25/2012. Addison and Mayleigh are gorgeous girls who have been enjoying their retirement Addison is very independent and is a Momma's girl for sure. She is most definitely an alpha-female. She is very food motivated and loves a cookie here and there! She loves stuffed animals but never destroys them ! We love her very much, and wouldn't change a thing about her Mayleigh is very bouncy and fun! She will play with our other non-greyhounds where as Addison won't. She is very submissive and sweet She LOVES food. More than any dog I know. She is willing to do anything for a treat! She destroys stuffed animals, but loves them while they last! We love having multiple greyhounds! Mayleigh has really helped Addison with her separation anxiety as well. I have attached a photo of them. Addison is brindle and Mayleigh is black. Hunter (cocker spaniel mix) and Zeke (terrier mix) are our honorary greyhounds I would love to hear of anyone who knew my girls or trained them or anything Attachments:
