Hi! I am wondering if anyone has good suggestions for homemade treats that I can use for training. I currently buy dried chicken breast strips from pet planet and rip them up into bite sized pieces, but I need more variety and ripping those strips is also ripping up my hands. River is super food motivated, and we have a lot of important work to do right now on stairs and nice walking (non-trash-eating) behaviour. So what do you guys use?
Please no seafood suggestions - I am deathly allergic to fish and shellfish and I don't like to get it on my hands.
We tried a little hotdog, but that's going to be a once-every-six-months treat - the hotdog farts drove everyone out of the house for 3 days! Poor lonely, stinky River...

Dried liver and lung. Easy to break up into little pieces.

I find the best treats from the grocery store. I will buy chickens or roasts on sale, cook them (sometimes saving the yummy parts for myself ) and shred it up for the dogs. You can freeze it if you aren't going to use it up right away. This seems to be the cheapest option and the dogs LOVE it.

Chicken hearts, either dehydrated or baked on very low temp, are a big favorite here. Really any muscle meat that you can slice thinly and bake slowly will work.

we've recently started juicing here in our home and I save all the pulp - man, there's a lot of pulp! anyway, I just spread it on a cookie sheet and bake it slowly for a couple of hours and then break it up. sometimes I add eggs and many some oil to the mix. it seems to be a hit here! Martha

Hi! A couple months ago I posted a recipe for Wholly Mackarel treats...but you shouldn't need to either a)wear rubber gloves b)die while making them as I don't see why canned turkey or chicken couldn't be subbed in for the canned fish...give it a go

They're not home-made, but I pick up rollover treats. They're soft enough that I can tear off a chunk in one hand, great for mid-walk reinforcement. They come in huge rolls, but I cut them up into pucks and freeze the ones I don't go through fast enough, so they've been pretty fantastic. And Booker will do most anything for the beef rollovers, so they've been great during group training and I want him to focus on me, not the other dogs in the room.
I've made a few home made treats, but nothing really soft enough to break apart, so I can't really help in that regard!
