Just wondering your suggestions. I'm currently feeding Houdini 2 pounds of food in one meal. That's meat/bone/organ. He is constantly looking for food. Any suggestions for things I can use to maybe occupy him more than anything. I was thinking of picking up some pork shoulder bones as those are good for long chew sessions, I also bought a big kong today to stuff with peanut butter. I'm going to split his meals into 2 so he's not going 24 hours between eating. Anything else you can suggest?

We get a bag of bones from Highland Farms (off of Hwy 20). They have good raw selection for dogs as well. The bones keep Holly occupied and we've noticed that she's just relaxing more the longer she's here - at first I think she was wondering when the next race was! We did the kongs too...good idea.

Yes highland is where I buy most of the products they eat. Houdini had a months worth of meals in the freezer waiting for him:)

Sandra, whenever a new dog comes home here I feed three times a day until I see them settle down a bit. I don't know if that works for you but these guys are "chomping" at the bit with all the delightful raw goodies we offer them. I think they're worse than kid's in a candy store. A good bone is a great relaxer, a great workout and will keep him good and distracted. Sounds to me like you're right on the money with Houdini! Also, do you ever give pizel sticks?, they're a great chew as well! Martha

It's that racing metabolism. Hopefully his will settle down soon.
Split pork necks are great, worth asking at Highland if they have any. I get them at the Asian groceries. Pork shoulders are a wonderful idea, that should keep him pretty occupied!
Some people like to use Kongs and then fill them with yogurt and freeze them, but for him one of those puzzle toys that you put food in might be better, he'd have to really work at that and it would keep him occupied.
Glad he's settling in so well.
