Hello all! Hope you and all your houndies are enjoying the (ahem) "refreshing" winter this year! Just wondering if anyone would be able to suggest something for dry and flaking skin - I've got Jack on fish oil and I have an aloe/tea tree oil spritz but i find he is still getting dry patches where the fur is starting to come off. Just little nicks here and there but the oil doesn't seem to cut it. Recommendations?

Have you considered coconut oil? I don't use it for my dogs but I know of alot of people who are, it's worth looking into.

My house is very dry especially as I have just had a new furnace installed without a humidifier. I have a small portable one that I use but nowhere near enough for a 3 level home. Both my houndie and I developed very dry skin. On a black pup it looks terrible so I had to find a solution. I started to add a teaspoon and a half of coconut oil into his breakfast and after a week, pretty much all of the dry flakes are gone. I also warm some in my hands once a week and rub it into his fur. A rubber curry mitt is how I groom him with a Farnam's shine block to gather the loose fur. He is super shiny and flake free once again!
