Hello All,
I am hoping that you someone can shed a little light on two questions for me. I have recently discovered that I am pregnant (was not planned event and noticed later on). I have two greyhounds that I have had from 3 years. Emma is closer to me and more “my” dog. She was been following me around more and more and seems a bit depressed that last week. Last night she came up to our bedroom (only allowed upstairs in our room in a storm or if she has to pee in the middle of the night) and wanted on the bed which we accommodated – slept beside my husband. Then around 3am we got her down but to only find her in my closet in the morning 630am laying on my clothes. We are hoping that she is sensing that something is “off” with me and there is nothing wrong with her. We have looked on the web and realize that dogs to have the 6th sense and can detect when something is “wrong” with humans.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this is what is happening, if so how best to deal with it?
Also have been wanting to ask if anyone feeds their greys RAW and have a baby in the house? WE have been feeding them RAW for most of the 3 years and I do not want to change. I am of course concerned about the baby coming in and the dogs licking etc the baby. Thoughts or insights are appreciated.
Thank you!!

For what this is worth -- I am not pregnant. But a couple of weeks ago I fainted in our backyard whilst chatting with a neighbour over the fence, my husband was on Skype to his high school buddy in San Francisco. Michel would not leave my side when the husband of my neighbour came into the yard and tried to make sure I was breathing, they had a hard time getting her in the house when the ambulance arrived, my husband was able to get her in. She had been sticking very close to me all day to the point of causing me to trip over her a couple of times. In the future when she gets like this again I'll pay more attention to her. When I had a serious fall several years ago I, of course, dropped her leash -- she did not take off but stayed close to me and stood very still allowing me to use her to get myself up at which point she found our way home. I didn't know where I was until she got us to our front door! No one saw us. Yes, I think they are very tuned to us. If I need to be up at a certain time she is in our bedroom letting me know I need to get up, if I am not already up, she is never late. I call my cats my 'nurse cats' because they are even more tuned into me than Michel -- if I lay down with a headache they will wrap themselves around my head, or curl up against my back if that is bothering me -- every time. Gotta love our Fur Kidds, I know I sure do all 5 of them.

There really isn't reason to be concerned about bacteria from the raw and your baby. Your dog will come into contact with bacteria everywhere, there same as we do. It's part of our environment, unless you're going to live in a bubble. This is one of raw feeding's myths. More information about this here: Myth#4:The Bacteria in Raw Food can Harm Humans

This is a very interesting thread. Last week I was very anxious for a few days. Trip was also very anxious, following me around and whining. I realize this post doesn't answer your questions but it does reinforce my belief our dogs know when something is different.

First off I just wanted to say congratulations!!
I have two greyhounds and two young children. I can't say I noticed either dog acting differently while I was pregnant, but that's not to say that some don't realize something is up. I have to say both dogs have been excellent with the kids though. Wally takes on a live and let live attitude which is fine with me, and Corinna just loves the kids so much. Both dogs are so gentle and careful around the kids, unlike so many other dogs We've come across. Greyhounds are just the best.
I can't comment much on the raw food as I don't feed it. But I imagine as long as you don't let the baby crawl around where you are feeding ( which shouldn't be done regardless what you feed) the dog there shouldn't be a problem.
