So here's the story: We moved into our home a year and a bit ago. We set up the futon mattress in the spare room for our nephew to nap on while we and his parents set up the house. A week later, Augie joined our family. As sometimes happens...that futon mattress never moved! Now we are planning on children and we want to move Augie out long before we move a baby in (hoping he won't associate the loss of the room with the arrival of a baby). Now, we are ridiculous enough that he has a bed in our room, a bed in the family room, sleeps on the couch all the time and has his crate in the basement. He is not hurting for beds, but that room has become his zone.
The plan is to buy him better beds for our room and his crate and remove the futon all in one day. We are hoping he will just lose interest in the spare room over the next few months. Thoughts anyone? Augie is our first dog and we have a great relationship with him but moving his safe zone feels like a huge deal so advice would b appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Not sure if this will work for Augie or not, but if he is sensitive to smells, it might. One room in the house that none of my dogs like to be in is the room where we burn incense for meditation. One of our dogs in particular won't even step foot in it. Is there a smell that you can tolerate that Augie doesn't like? If so you could use that as a deterent so that he makes the choice on his own to stay out of the room. Good luck

Thanks! We haven't used incense before but I'm happy to try it. He doesn't seem to like some of the candles we have so I might start there. Thanks for the suggestion!
