I was wondering if anyone considered doing agility training with their greyhounds. It doesn't seem to be something you see greyhounds doing often or even something they would excel at. However, I am up for a challenge.

I know several greyhounds that are involved in agility and even fly ball. If you and your hound enjoy it, why not?
There is a forum member that did a lot of agility (morristahlgreys), hopefully she will come on and tell us about her experiences. One year after the picnic she gave us a demonstration with her lovely girlie Jana, who was just amazing. Jana is at the bridge now but I'll always remember how graceful she was. There is also the example of the Gilley girls dance team, which was way beyond agility, but many of our greyhounds are capable of a lot more than racing and being a couch potato, that's for sure!

I did agility last year with Summer. She did just fine with it. She did fall off the dogwalk and scrape inside her thigh so I didn't bother with that piece of equipment again. I didn't want to compete and doing it was just for fun and the experience, so skipping a piece of equipment was no big deal. But she only did the course to please me and she honestly only enjoyed doing the tunnel. So we stopped. But if you find that your dog enjoys it, you will have a great time! Know what your pup will work for before you go (food? toys?) -- Summer won't work for either of those things but she'll work for snuggles so that's what we used.

I have two of my girls in agility--Poppy (almost 8) and Pink (11 1/2). Both love it, although Poppy has gotten worried lately because of the teeter, and because she's very noise sensitive (the teeter, thunder, blasting from the nearby quarry...). Some dogs (not just greys) love it and some don't, but there isn't any reason why a greyhound can't do it.

I really want to try it. I just need to find a school in my area.

Google "Never Say Never Greyhounds", her name is Jennifer, she has had about 6 retired Greyhounds win high titles in agility. She also teaches you how to get started in training your Grey. I have just started teaching Stella clicker training and she can already sit and down on command I also go instructions off of the Ceaser's Way website on how to make your own agility coarse with common objects

I don't do agility here (although I just got some weave pole things that we have worked on a bit for fun ) but I second the NeverSayNever Greyhound blog. Lots of videos and posts to inspire you! neversaynevergreyhounds.blogspot.ca/

I was wondering about that, too, since my boy doesn't seem the slightest bit interested in chasing a ball.
