Hi everyone Just wanted to introduce myself and my new grey - Im Karen from Toronto and adopted 6 year old Tavi (Delhi Octavius) yesterday with my boyfriend. So far so good! He was in a home before so is housebroken and seems used to everything in his new home - only thing he didnt seem to want to do was have a bath - but I'll give him a couple more days to settle in before I try that again. Here's a pic of the guy:

Welcome and congrats! I have 3 greys and none of them like to bathe! Around here doggie bath time means 3 greys and 2 humans soakin' wet out in the back yard! I think I read in Retired Racing Greyhound's for Dummies that greyhounds' legs can give out when in water so be prepared for that if you are bathing him in the tub!

Isn't he just the sweetest? And what a soft coat he sports.

Welcome to this forum. Come and meet some of us in person on Sundays at Norwood Park (Gerrard & Woodbine) at 12:00 noon. It was a bit wet this past Sunday, but all of us had fun anyway.

Welcome to the site! I have to admit, DH and I knew Tavi when he was with his first owner. She lived next door to us and, every now and then, we'd take care of him for the day! We LOVE Tavi! He is a real gem, and you're lucky to have found each other.
Best of luck with your new boy!!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I love this guy! Every day he warms up a little bit more. Today's my first day away from him and its driving me crazy! It's strange how attached you can get so quickly. sdsandiford - that's so cool that you know him! He's so well behaved and completely housebroken so his previous owner must have been doing great with him. Did he live with another dog before? I cant remember if Bill said that or not. Was he used to being home alone during the day as well? Today he's going to be alone for 4 hours or so and Im a little nervous but I think he'll be ok.
pashas_momanddad - I definitely want to get out to the grey play dates on sunday - but can you believe i work on that day!?! I might not have to work every sunday so will definitely try to get out there those weeks.. I'd bet he'd enjoy having a run offleash with some other greys. He's met some other dogs on the road and sniffs them but then doesnt seem to interested in them after that.

I think you might be Tavi's third home. His first owner worked very long hours on some days (which was why we puppy-sat him). So, I know he's used to being alone. I also think he's fairly acclimated to other dogs. Our former neighbor only had Tav, but her daughter had a dog, and the two were frequently together. Hope this info helps.
Want to know something interesting. We almost didn't recognize Tavi when we saw him at the kennel (we originally knew him about two years ago). He had really put on ALOT of weight in his first home. We were sure that the small dog we saw at the kennel a few weeks ago couldn't possibly be the same dog! LOL
