Hey everyone, it's been a while since I posted. Doug has seemed to have had a regression... we had him for the most part "house-trained".
Now that we have Rosie, it doesn't matter whether we are out for an hour, or eight, we come home to multiple piles of poop, and at least one pee puddle. I can say for sure the pee accidents are doug, as they are sprayed up the wall, or up the leg of the coffee table. and i'm thinking, he may have taught rosie (who is definitely the submissive one) to poop on the floor with him. now, we could be home all day with no problems... it just happens when we go out. yes we let them out right before, even try to give extra encouragement to pee/poop, and they get a treat when they come in. they are very stubborn and sometimes refuse to go.
my question... how do i stop this behaviour.... i take them to the poop pile and say bad girl/boy, and then immediately take them outside. others have told me the dogs won't remember unless you stop them as they are doing the bad behaviour. do i need to stake out front of my house to catch them pooping?
I totally appreciate your help! i literally never put my mop/bucket away...

I think crate training may be in order. I think you need to correct the behaviour as it happens.
We still use crates for Suli and Moves. I used to feel bad about it to a degree until I was home sick one day. Lazy buggers didn't get out of bed until noon. Looked at me with a "oh you're here" look. Then went to the crates to hang out the rest of the day.
Somebody with more experience can probably expand on this or offer something better/different

This must be very frustrating. I agree crate training is in order....it'll help you keep your sanity and give you a chance to get thiese problems resolved. I'm no expert but want to offer my thoughts. I don't think they are being stubborn. I would put them out one at a time so you can get them each focused on doing their business. Then praise praise praise when they get the job done. I know, right back to the beginning. Doug seems to be marking? I'm not sure what to do about that. I'd get Rosie checked for worms just to make sure. And, check the stools carefully for evidence of worms as sometimes it won't show up. Again, getting them detanked before you go out wil help. It could be anxiety and the crates will help. I truly think you have to reestablish the outdoor pottie routine. Good luck!
Good luck!

I am no expert for sure, but maybe after the re-crate training, a belly band for Doug might be a temporary deterrent, and would reinforce the 'no-pee-in-house'. (I believe they are available from many greyhound merchants). Good luck...

A belly band is a specially made fabric band, (velcro closure on the back), that wraps lightly around the male dog's belly to cover the private parts. Some bands have a inside liner in which extra padding can be placed if needed. Basically, ...either the pup is just hesitant to void if there is something there and/or if he does, the wet sensation is not comfortable so he will refrain thereafter. Ideally, it is for use when the grey is alone, and removed when supervision is available. My understanding is that it is used as an intermediate training tool between crate and free range.
Hope this helps... again, I'm no expert but did look into this with a recent adoption of our boy. He has done amazingly well so only put it on him for a few days (as he is now out while we are at work)..... no accidents! so we are (hopefully) 'home-free' ...literally ;D

I thought belly bands were there as nappies, not as deterrents?

I thought belly bands were there as nappies, not as deterrents? Absolutely...that too. I understand from my humble 'researching' that they can be used for both purposes. Training and incontinence. My thought sort of went along with the former reason and logic... visions of moms rushing to the toilet with their toddlers while they 'held on' to their privates kind of gave rise to the reasoning that maybe a little contact on the male anatomy of boys (and pups?) can somehow tie-things-over?? Knowing that the change from crating (where our Joker was accident-free after day one), and being out for the work day, would be new and therefore stressful, I just gave it a try for the first going off. Whether the band helped, or whether it was Light's presence, or perhaps he had totally understood the concept at this time.... will never know for sure. (Must say he made me smile when I put it on before leaving for work... he would come over and wait for it, seeming to really enjoy having it on... couldn't help but envision him thinking ...."hmm-m-m...odd-fitting swim trunks... wonder when we get to go for our swim??? ;D
