We had been controlling the "cut" by wrapping her foot each time she went for her daily run, and unwrapping it when she came home. For quite some time we've had no problem BUT - the day before yesterday, after the daily run, we suddenly spotted blood spots on our very light coloured carpet. The cut was open again but she was in the house. Yet again we were extremely puzzled, so yesterday we took her to the vet. As he was inspecting the toe he wiggled it and suddenly realized the toe totally dislocated and each time it was stressed the cut opened up again. There was no longer any muscle support. This morning she had the toe amputated in the hopes that we'll have a 100% cure and in a few weeks she can run again with no bandage. Right now she's on her bed, quite groggy, with pink vet wrap part way up her leg. Hopefully, because she is used to being bandaged for her runs, we won't have the problems with her trying to take the bandage off that others have had. Wish her luck because this puppy just LOVES to run!!

I sure hope this is the end of Rain's foot problem and that she heals quickly now. Rain, you'll be just in time for a fancy free summer.

Quick healing Rain. Do your best to be a good girl until things are all healed up and before you know it you will be able to run again.

She is used to being wrapped for her run so she isn't showing any interest at all in the bandage. I just changed it and she lay on the couch and didn't move an inch. My husband took the two gals for a gentle leash walk and he said Rain was putting a bit of weight on the foot by the end of the walk. Right now she is sun-bathing on the back lawn; she loves to be outside and we have one of those screens with magnets so she can go in and out as she pleases.

May 22nd. She had her bandage changed and the vet is really pleased with the progress. She often walks on all 4 feet now. She is still well bundled up in VetWrap so isn't fussing with the bandage. She won't get her stitches out until the end of the month - just to make sure everything is healed. She's under "home care" now - I'm changing her bandages every 3 days. If she gets to the point where the incision looks really good I may skip the vet wrap and just "sock it to her". She should be OK in time for the picnic.
