Hey everyone..
I am currently having some issues with my boy Licorice that I am hoping someone will have some insight on.
I went away for four days and boarded Licorice at someone's house...incidentally, a wonderful lady who has three greys of her own and lives in the country. Huge backyard, pools for the doggies to play in, etc etc. I think that Licorice fell in love with one of the girls.
When we picked him up and took him home, he was so depressed for a couple days and it was obvious. He wouldn't eat his breakfast, general malaise. It passed after a while and he became more himself.
But now we're dealing with the issue of boredom, or what I think is boredom. We currently live in a large apartment and Licorice goes out for walks 3-4 times a day. We take him often to a fenced in yard to run around in. He gets good exercise, as I also take him for runs. On top of that, I try to take him to the dog park to give him social time with other dogs. He has a vast amount of stuffed animals, bones, and two cats to keep him company.
Lately though, he just keeps whining alllll the time. He wants us to take him outside even more than we currently do. He's five years old so I don't understand why it seems like his energy level is rising. I don't always have the energy to take him out constantly either. I'm not sure what to do about it.
We've talked about getting another greyhound to keep him company but I don't know if that would really solve the issue of him being unhappy. Did anyone else experience this before getting a second greyhound? Does anyone have any advice?
And with regards to the amount of time that he left home at a time... the most time he's left home alone is about eight hours and that's only about once a week.
Help!
