As many of you know, my wife and I brought Augie (Dawg) home about two weeks ago. Things are going well. Augie is adjusting beautifully and most of the minor upsets we have had have more to do with us as new dog parents than with Augie. In two weeks, my wife's sister is getting married. My wife will be gone for half the week and I will be gone for two nights. Just after that, I go back to work. We have been working on alone training with Augie but we are worried about a relapse when we return. We have a friend coming to stay at the house while we are gone to keep Augie on his schedule and give him some company. Any thoughts on how to make this easier on him/ prevent him feeling abandoned? We'd like to come home to a happy healthy dog who is ready to spend his days alone while we are at work but we know that might not happen. Thanks!

Let your friend come over as much as possible in the next two weeks to feed her and walk her so Augie gets used to your friend and your friend to Augie. If they take to each other and are comfortable with each other things will be smoother for all of you Enjoy the wedding.

Good advice. Make sure your friend has all the regular routines for coming and going. Good luck and congrats on your new family member. He's a lucky boy!!

I would have your friend show up for a week in advance and go for a walk with you and your puppy. I found that even though my guy new my sister for a week, he did not want to go for a walk with only her. She managed to coax him around the block but he was not happy.
Good luck

My two have walked with Elizabeth and Jack many times but when I wasn't well recently and asked E to walk my girls neither of them were happy. Lottie managed half my road and Ruby just one side of it.

Lots of great advice If your friend has to leave, he/she may want to leave some music playing etc. We play a lot of music for Guinness while we're at home. Then when we go out, we leave it playing. He doesn't seem to have the same level of separation anxiety and I'm getting the impression he equates the music with our presence. When I left him alone without the music last weekend, he dismanted a doorframe lol...... I use this website and leave it running on my laptop for him: www.stereomood.com/ (Select "Calm" )
