Emily and her people went to Norwood Park in the Beaches today to meet up with others of her kind and their people. It was fun to be off-leash for a change. And although she kept to herself and seemed less than friendly, it did her good. Here they are considering a career change in duck hunting! That being said, the commute from Oshawa is somewhat long. It's not something we'd do every Sunday. Are there greyhounds out there meeting in an enclosed park in Durham Region on a regular basis? Are there greyhounds in the area willing to meet up for a single event or regularly? Alexandra Park in Oshawa has an enclosed baseball diamond. Apparently, there's a set time every second Sunday when pooches congregate. Alas, when is a mystery. Anyone? Anyone?

It took Hope and Hotwire a while before they seemed like they wanted to be social. They used to just stick by our sides, then slowly started wandering farther. Now, well, you saw how they were today. We have them off leash usually 2-5 times per week. (More in the summer) As Emily gets used to beeing off, she will feel less defensive. I hope you can find some grey-friends to visit regularly!

Took Emily out for a run in a fenced-in park this afternoon. She needed it.
She was trying to roach in the back of the SUV on the way back! ;D
Let's see if there's a good spot... I'll get back to you on that.

Yeah, I agree that it takes time for hounds to get accustomed to the runs with others, especially if they don't know anyone.. kinda like a new kid at school feeling. Once they make friends, there's no way you're going to get her attention. Bit of a drive for me, but it looks like lots of fun!

Norwood is, unfortunately, in the Beach. Quite the trip. We've been once and it's quite nice.
We have yet to find such a park in the Shwa. Besides, there are so few Greyhounds here...
We often go to the Harmony Creek Conservation Area, where Emily's the only dog on leash (and apparently the only dog whose people carry plastic bags! Eewww!). They're talking about fencing off a portion of it as a leash-free zone.
We've met Jade and Jasper, two beautiful fawns. They're at Harmony Creek daily as one of their people works nights. We've encountered them two or three times. They're not from GRA - not that there's anything wrong with that!
Alexandra Park by the hospital has a fully-enclosed baseball diamond. Apparently dogs meet there every second Sunday, but when, I know not. Our outings there have never coincided with theirs.
There's a fenced-in baseball diamond at Lakeview Park.
What are your favourite spots - in Courtice or otherwise?

Hi there - driving down to the Beach from where we are in Richmond Hill isn't too bad, especially on a Sunday. We'd love to meet some other Greyhounds and their families. Will you be meeting there on Sundays throughout the summer? We probably can't make it for a week or two because the vet has told Pearl to rest her leg for 10 days to try to figure out her limp. Not fun when 2 greys want to run around and play in the backyard! Anyway, if you're still meeting in the summer, maybe we could join you sometime?

We will meet there throughout the summer. However, last sunday there was not a lot of physical activity. The hounds and the people were all gathered under the tree in the shade. The hounds were digging holes and resting in the cool sand, while the people just stood around bragging about their dogs.
