I don't give my guys BARF because I can't afford it, but I did investigate it about six months ago. Dr. Dolittle's in London sells raw diet ingredients (frozen). I know there are a few butchers in London that are more than happy to give out RMB (raw meaty bones) that they would just throw out, otherwise.
In case anyone is wondering what BARF is, it stands for Bones and Raw Feed. . . not real barf.

I believe Petacular in downtown London sells BARF as well. I don't feed Roman BARF, but I've noticed signs for it in their two stores.

I get a ground tongue, heart and liver mixture that has been frozen and cut into about 1lb blocks from our local butcher. They charge 70 cents a pound for it. I mix that with a product called Urban Wolf which is dried veggies, fruit and herbs. We are not totally raw because they like the kibble too and it makes pet sitting easier if the sitters are not good with the meat mixture....it is kind of gross. We also give them raw turkey necks when we can get them and they love chicken hearts and gizzards. Shiraz is a black girl and before I started feeding partly raw I had a hard time keeping her coat shiny but not anymore. Usually she is glossy and black.

There's another Raw Diet which I've recently heard of called Mountain Dog www.mountaindogfood.com which I'm just checking into for my guys. I don't know enough about raw feeding (yet!!) but I understand it's very beneficial.

We were feeding our English Pointer a mixture of raw and cooked meats, along with veggies, rice, etc. she LOVED it, ofcourse, and she looked great.. best coat condition she ever had.
we give digby raw chicken backs, turkey necks, gizzards, etc. occasionally, but find we are too short on tiem lately to put the time into creating a proper diet out of it again. i mostly give him the backs and the necks in effort to improve his teeth.

I decided to try Kiki on the raw diet and WOW what a difference. He has endless energy, he's happier, rests better, plays harder, no flakes, bumps or rashes, and he looks fantastic. I use the Mountain Diet ground chicken and then cook my own veggies, oatmeal or brown rice and fruit with yogurt (my guys eat better than I do!). I give him Omegas 3-6-9, Salmon Oil and Acidolphilus and a regular multi vitamin. AND the good news is that it's cheaper at the end of the day then the Wellness Duck he was eating. I feel great feeding him well, he feels great eating well...it's a win/win! Highly recommended and if anyone needs help getting started, there is tons of information out there that I can direct you to.

There is a store called Bone Apetite in Burlington that sells different varieties of raw diet. I have tried Gigi on a couple of things from there - they have been very helpful but she does not like it. I would welcome any direction you may have for info. Any body that I have talked to that feeds their dog a raw or partly raw diet is raving about it thanks sue claughton@sympatico.ca
