This morning Sadie jumped either off the bed or onto the bed and caught the flap of skin between her thigh and her flank on the open door of a crate and put a huge gaping hole inside. To look straight on she looked fine but when I got on my hands and knees and looked up under her I could see a hole big enough to put my fist in and exposed muscle and blood vessels. My daughter was at my house grooming and she also works at my vets so off we went. They tried to staple the wound with just freezing but Sadie wouldn't let them so she had to be put out. Because she ate breakfast we had to wait for surgery. Now we are back home and she is still very groggy. She has sutures on the inside and staples on the outside. Our first experience with anesthetic went well. My poor little Sadie girl. l leave the crate doors open for them to go in and out but I guess now I will be keeping them closed.

Oh Poor thing. They had to put Echo out too when they stitched up her neck. I hope her sutures heal well and quickly.

Sadie is doing well. She is on Metacam and antibiotics. Her staples look good. I'm glad it's mild outside and not freezing cold. She's been out a couple of times. I have a collar for her if she licks at her stitches but so far she is leaving them alone. The other 3 are not too happy because they are gated out of the kitchen and Sadie is stretched out by the woodstove. Thanks for the get well wishes!

I'm glad she's making progress.
Just a thought: if the issue with your crate door is a metal bar that sticks straight up, you might put a piece of styrofoam on the top of it. I did this with the poodle-size crate in the kitchen (a plastic job with a metal door with a top pole/catch), and it has prevented a few calamities. I can leave the door open, and, when I want to close it, quickly remove the styrofoam and store it on top of the crate.
