So, Chase and I are at my parents place for the holidays...and they keep bowls of nuts out on the coffee tables. Things like hazelnuts and walnuts still in the hard shell. Lately i've been finding them on chase's bed, he's grabbed them and gummed the shell up...but not bitten thru. I was just wondering if anyone knew if this could be harmful to him? Kinda like something he shouldn't eat?
thanks jen

ok, since we are on the subject of nuts...what about peanut butter?
Is it just nuts in the form of, well..... nuts or nut products?
When Sy was diagnosed with hypothyroid, the vet's (grey knowledgable) recommendation was to have us give him peanut butter with the pill in it. And yes, Sy LOVES peanut butter.

Huh... I give my boys nuts now and again. I usually have peanuts, walnuts and almonds in the house and sometimes when they come snooping in the kitchen I give 'em a couple if I have the nuts out. I don't give them the nuts in the shells though - I am afraid they could get lodged in my puppers' throats. They do love them! I've never seen nuts on a no-no list... I guess I'd better read Jiffer's links!

I think they mean more that you should give in moderation. A nut here or there would most likely be fine. Peanut butter is the #1 recommendation for pilling by all vets we've ever talked to.. and by most people, too. It's good as a treat or for getting those pills down, but again, in moderation
