Would anyone have hints to 'brushing'?
Dr Vet suggested using pieces of old pantyhose because of their abrasiveness. Not sure I like it, or maybe haven't the hang of it.
Emily allows me to clean the outside, but when it comes to the inside, she clams up.
Tilting the head up works somewhat. But she's so laid back. Literally! She plops down.
I'm curious as to how everyone proceeds.
Thanks.

The inside of her mouth should be fine. I brush only the outside and let the kibble/treats/chews clean the inside We use a toddler's toothbrush with Petrodex Toothpaste here.

Hi, Everybody is talking how great turkey necks are for teeth cleaning, but how do you serve them? My Fran is not interested at all and I serve them raw at room temp. Should I cook them perhaps?

Anna I really believe that the turkey necks do a great job on my girls' teeth, when they have them regularly (once a week). I haven't given them any since the summer, and then only sporadically. They should NEVER be cooked! I give them cold (out of the fridge) and both girls love them. It is very hard to watch them eat them, though, as it does look like they are going to choke. They never have, but I stay right with them just to make sure they are okay. The necks are large, so I have them cut in half and each time I vary which girl gets the fatter end. I spread out a large comforter or blanket and make them both stay on it with the raw necks and then when they are done, I gather up the blanket and through it right in the washing machine. They take care of their own cleanup (licking their faces and feet!! )

Oh Goodness! I was taught to NEVER give your furkid chicken or turkey bones, as they splinter easily and could be a serious choking hazard... I'd use Dentabones or something, but definitely not turkey or chicken bones. *shiver!*

Unfortunately, 3 of my 4 can't tolerate chicken or turkey. I use beef bones--raw, frozen. I also brush daily. First I use an electric brush and CET toothpaste. Then a pet brush and CET mouthwash. I only brush the outside. The CET products contain enzymes which are supposed to help clean the spots that I miss. I think the bones have helped a lot.

I use a finger brush and toothpaste, doesn't matter what flavour Rocco loves them all, doesn't give any problems when I'm brushing him

Raw bones are okay. It's the cooked ones that can cause trouble. I'm looking into turkey necks and chicken backs for our pack. I know Dr. Doos sells them but I was given a tip that Trail's End out East Dundas has them and they're cheaper.

Sometimes the major chains have turkey necks and chicken backs. I've seen them in Dominion (A&P). I don't know about pricing: given my crew's allergies, I just stare at them longingly....

I get mine from Oegema Turkey farm in Talbotville. It is only a short drive. A friend of mine works there and lets me know when they are on special and I stock up.
