My boys have been eating their poop ever since I switched to California Natural (almost 3 months). I don't really want to change their food b/c they like it and seem to be doing well on it. I read on GT that adding pineapple to their food will stop them from eating their poop so I gave it a try...ALL 3 GREYS NOW HAVE POURING OUT DIARRHEA!!! This morning I woke up to 2 huge puddles...and one was part on the rug, part on the floor, part on the curtains and part down the heating register - what a mess! My poor pups, they all have such sensitive stomachs! Well, thanks for listening, I was just feeling sorry for myself and needed to come to a place where I know many would understand...now back to the cleaning!

Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. If you try again--I wouldn't blame you if you didn't--you might want to start with tiny bits. Also, Solid Gold has a product called S.E.P. (Stop Eating Poop) that my neighbour swears by. See: solidgoldhealth.com/products/showcat.php?cat=3

Don't have any suggestions about the eating thing but you have my sympathy in the mess you have to clean up. I wish I could help... no wait that is not a nice job. I will help in spirit. And hugs for the sick puppers. Hopefully this will only be short term for them and it is out of their systems.

The sugar concentration in pineapple would do that to any dog so don't feel too bad about sensitive tummies. When I give pineapple, it's always in small bits. Not all stop aids will stop them from doing that. Your best cure is to pick it up immediately

most dogs are lacking protein in the food and that is what can cause coprophagia (eating poop) from what I have been told during my studies

Some dogs just enjoy, several studies have been done that shows not related to lack of anything in the diet, females keep their den areas clean by scooping up after their puppies, and also common for puppies to eat but usually they outgrow, at tracks they use muzzles with poop guards inserted to help stop the scoopers. I think some of the local adoption groups have the poop guards for sale. I bought a couple when I was at one of the reunions/events so I would have available as a medical supply as Sunny really freaks out wearing an E-collar.
Some suggest sprinkling a bit of meat tenderizer 's meat like Accent of Adolf tenderizer on their food. that is basically what the dog products contain.
I have tried Pineapple in the past with one of my ormer poopeater I think to her it was just extra flavoring because it sure never stopped the behaviour, can't say how effective the meat tenderizer is, some claim it works others have had no luck with.
For the Big D now, fast them for 24 hours making sure lots of fresh water is available then just give just several very small meals of boiled hamburger and rice throughout the following day a few hours apart to see if they can hold it, if they are then start adding in some kibble gradually increasing till you are back to all kibble again.
