You wouldn't believe it. Icarus is nearly all better. Dr. Robertshaw looked him over and even he was amazed. Icarus' neck is feeling normal, his lumbar, too. He was a little tender in the hips and the left shoulder but not like he was before. A bit of adjustment, bit of acupuncture and we were on our way. After two treatments(!), Icarus is walking normal again and playing like he should be. I took him for a walk the other night and he pulled the entire walk, I would speed up my pace and he'd walk faster. I am so thankful that our usual vet, Dr. Hoover, sent us down the holistic path. He recognized that the medication wasn't curing the problem, only masking it. So here I am on cloud nine! Welcome back, Ica-roo!

WOW, that is GREYT news! You have a new pup I wonder if acupuncture would help Gigi's leg that was broken when she retired off of the track? She puts it down but there is no weight on it - she refuses to put any weight on it and every once and a while it causes her pain as she yelps when she moves it. Metacam to the rescue!

She puts it down but there is no weight on it - she refuses to put any weight on it and every once and a while it causes her pain as she yelps when she moves it. Metacam to the rescue! It could help. One exercise that I do with Atlas, who is also a broken leg pup (badly broken rear left hock), is to lift up his bad leg, hold so all weight is on the good one, and count 5 seconds (that's the easy part). Put that leg down and then hold up the good leg forcing him to hold up his weight on the bad leg, count to 5 seconds (if she can hold that long). Then switch again. Do this five times. Over time hold it for longer (10 secs, 15 secs, 20 secs). It will help build the leg back up. Massaging those stiff toes helps too. Straighten them out as much as they will allow, rub the foot, massage the toes. Overtime Atlas' toes have even started to relax. It took us a year before he put any weight on his primary pad... he had been walking on his toes only all that time.

He figures in 6 weeks we can come in again and see how he's doing. If he needs any adjustment at that time, we will. Icarus was so happy this morning. I opened the door to the backyard and he took off with his brothers across the backyard. It's greyt to see him run!

I am sooooo pleased to hear that he's better!!!! I hope it continues. Imagine how he must enjoy being able to be loose in the yard, and play. He must think he's in heaven. I might have to check into this for some of my lame crew, especially Betsy's shoulder (and neck), which has stiffened up in the cold. Edited because I had a brain cramp and mixed up Icarus and Atlas.

I still don't think I can tell them apart in person... they are definitely twins!!!!

You should have seen him in the snow this morning. He was bounding and hopping to get through it. He even invited me in play when he was finished his biz.

So very happy to hear the acupuncture has done the trick - isn't it wonderful when they go back to their normal selves? I had a similar experience when we finallyy got rid of Romi's corns, I watched him jump up into the truck for the first time in 2 years, and started to cry lol

I just love Dr. Robertshaw. Is he still practising in Aylmer? I used to use him many moons ago for my old two fur babies who are at the Raingbow Bridge now. He has always had a very kind touch with the animals.I was going to contact him re: accupuncture for my quarter horse when I was still showing, but never got the chance to (the acupuncturist I was using was a horse Dr only and from New York)
Glad to hear your grey is feeling better!

Yup, he's still in Aylmer. He really is a greyt guy. Icarus is due for another appointment soon. He's still doing well, but is showing signs that he needs another slight adjustment.
