Quick history for all of you who aren't yet "in the know"
My boy Gib has been on Glucosamine suppliments for the better part of a year for his stiffness "caused by arthritis". In the last 4 months, he has developed a constant limp in his front leg that we thought at first was due to a corn. After a physical at the vet, we were told it was most likely due to arthritis as the elbow joint was not moving as smoothly on that side as it should have. X-rays were recommended but the price was Not right!
After an extensive talk with the vet tech, we finally caved and booked the appointment with our regular vet for x-rays.
That was 2 days ago....
Fire and I went in this morning at 8 am to see my big black boy off to the "scary room" after 2 nights without sleep from worry (me), and for Gibson (the biggest insult of all) no breakfast this morning .
I had been told by the vet about the possibility of him having to be put under so they could get the best possible shots, so I stayed home from work this morning and hung out by the phone. They had been given STRICT instructions to call me if this was somethnig that needed to be done.
well, no phone call 8:30.......9:30........ 10:30...... you can see the pattern here. I calmed myself by repeating that no news in good news.
FINALLY got the call at 12:10 that he was all done and everything went really well.
the good news:
He did not have to be put under because he was such a GOOD BOY!!!!!!!!!
Vet also told me that from the x-rays, it didn't look like there was anything severely wrong in terms of osteo-arthritis which is what they thought was the reason for his limp.
the x-rays are being sent off to the specialists to see if there are any minute issued that a GP might miss, but they are now thinking it might be an issue with the joint fluid. This can be pretty much fixed up with some shots to the elbow!!!!!!!
The vet also gave us some different glucosamine suppliments that may do more good than the ones we are on right now.
the bad news.......... we also took in a "sample" for Fire as he is still losing weight, and as I suspected, he's got Hookworms
All in all a pretty good visit though as Gib will hopefully be on his way to limp-free-ness soon, Fire will be fat as a pig, and I will sleep like the dead tonight!
