Hi Guys,
I original started a thread in the Food & Diet section but it has become a medical topic...here is the beginning of the story: gracanada.proboards101.com/index.cgi?board=diet&action=display&thread=1152397966
When the vet called this morning she was very optimistic. She said that he started responding to people around him and sits up when people (vet & techs) go to him. She must mean he sits up to avoid them b/c Devin is a spook. She ran some new blood work and all abnormal values are coming down. Later today they will try to give him some water and if he can keep that down then they will try food. He did not present with a fever so she does not think that there is any other issues going on other than the acute case of colitis. If things do not go as smoothly as she expects she will be extracting a 'stool' sample for testing for parasites and bacteria (food poisoning).
She is such an awesome vet. I have been questioning every little thing and she calmly explains all the "what and whys" and never gets that defensive "Hey, I am the vet here!" tone with me. Every time someone shares their story with me I retell the story to her and she never cuts me off and always talks me through what she believes. She lives above her clinic and any animal that need to be monitored throughout the night is brought upstairs from the clinic in to her home so she is just steps away if the animal needs her. Devin spent the night with her.
I am a little worried (OK, I am freaking) right now b/c when she called at 8:00am this morning she told me she would call back after trying food and water...it is 3:00pm and she hasn't called back yet. I hope he isn't having a rough time. I just want him to get better and come home.
Keep us in your thoughts...I'll keep you posted...
