I have used glucosamine with MSM(helps with pain) from Walmart, Zehrs, Costco etc A couple of the brands I have used is Webber Naturals and Wampole(I try to stick with brand names to as have a higher quality with less fillers, it can take 4 to 6 weeks to notice the effects. The dosage I bought was 800 mg which contains 500mg of glucosamine sulfate and 300 mg of MSM, I gave 2 a day but 4 is the maximum dosage and it worked extremely well, Sunny was recovering from a broken leg and was yelping when he would get up from lying down prior to use, he was on for 2 years when I attempted to take him off earlier he started having problems again. Purchasing from the vet or other sources can get a lot pricier, but if advanced you may need combo that contains other ingredients like Glyco-Flex, Cosequin DS or Synovi You can also order from the greyhound gang in the US www.greyhoundgang.org/goodies/glucqa.html

I give my stiffer guys two daily doses of 500mg Glucosamine, 500mg Chondroitin and 400mg MSM in a combination pill. They work very well.
My two less stiff kids get 1000mg Glucosamine only.
If one brand doesn't seem to be doing the trick, give another a try. I've used Wampole before, it's really good. I'm using Kirkland brand now, from Costco.

stiffy Gibson gets 1500-2000 mg of glucosamine per day..... the pills we give have glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSM Nutro has great dog treats for seniors that have glucosamine in them (but a little pricy). there are also glucosamine treats made by the same company who does the Hip and Joint stuff for Petsmart. Gibson says these ones are YUMMY!

We have used Wellness brand glucosamine tablets for large breeds, and right now we are using NaturVet ArthriSoothe with Chondroitin and Glucosamine. I don't really know the dosage in mg, but I give Roman 2 tablets per day as a preventative measure, whereas they recommend 3 tablets to treat arthritis. They seem to work well I got both brands at Petacular in London, and both are higher end brands with less fillers.

I use Tri-acta, which is a combination of glucosamine, chondroitan, and MSM designed for animals. The dosage depends on the animals weight.
I started Perry on it when she was four because I could hear her joints popping and cracking. She's 7 1/2 now and just fine.
Tri-acta is sold through vet clinics and some pet stores (eg. Ren's in Oakville), and it's not cheap, but one large container ($80 at Ren's, $100 at my vet) lasted Perry almost a year. Now that I have all four girls on it, I go through a container a lot faster...

I use the V.E.T. I believe (I could go check but that would mean the dogs would follow me back to the kitchen!) that I buy from the vet clinic. It's a liquid that I put over their food and has kind of a honey/vanilla smell to it. I also use The Missing Link that has MSM which I quite like.

I would recommend staying away from lesser known brands. Read the fine print to determine the elemental makeup of the stuff. Because it's marketed for animal use, the same regs the we humans take for granted do not apply. I like the Missing Link one with glucosamine, but wow is it full of fibre!! MSM can cause tummy upset in people, so keep an eye on your pups.
