This morning was Velvet's first exposure to snow (that I know of). She was hilarious. At first she wouldn't go into the back yard, absolutely refused to go out the door. I decided to see if she would walk with me instead, as I was leaving her and wanted her to go outside to pee. Initially she wouldn't step out the front door either, I think the gusting wind and snow was too much. I pulled her out, and she pranced around me and kept pulling back to the door, so we headed back inside. I next pulled her into our backyard which is sheltered from the wind, where she did run and play for a few seconds, but kept heading to the door at the end of every circuit around our tiny yard. I then changed her jacket for her favorite sweater, gave her a minute, and then we tried going for a walk again. She loved it! She was hopping, twirling, jumping and play-bowing, all while still on the leash (and she is normally a perfect little lady on leash). She was so cute and funny, although we made very slow progress! I can't wait until there's snow and I'm free to take her to the park.
Sorry for rambling about a rather 'everday occurance' for you experienced hound owners, but for me it was so funny and special to see Velvet discovering that snow is not only not scary but actually fun!

Awwwwwwwwwwww she sounds so cute!
I remember the first year we had Gigi, the first time it snowed, she started spinning and spinning on her leash. I thought there was something wrong! I know now that she was just so happy and excited to be out in the snow! ;D

Funny how they communicate.
Emily will choose the route for her walks. We just went around the block this afternoon. It was raining. The sidewalks were hard to negotiate.
It's so much fun to run in every direction, off-leash, wearing a favourite sweater.

Gord hates the snow. you can put on his coat, his snood and his booties and he still wants nothing to do with that white stuff. LOL last year we got about a block from home and he refused to go and farther to i had to carry him home because he was screaming bloody murder ... not too easy because he's 83 pounds and trying to lick my face the whole time

Oh Velvet! Sounds like you're going to be a riot this winter! Our guys relish the snow too. They get so playful in it. I was watching Orion and Atlas run laps with each other this morning... so nice to watch my senior boys acting like pups!

Sounds like Velvet is becoming a "snow-bunny"! Chicky's only reaction to snow is that she now looks for tall grass (ie ornamental type) to pee on. Guess she doesn't want to "stain" the white stuff! Am I going to have to shovel off a section of the front lawn for her??!!

That's so cute, glad to hear that she now loves the snow. I'm not sure if it depends on where they come from that might have something to do with it. I think if a retired racer is from Florida that they might have a problem with it at first. My girl was from New Hampshire, so she absolutely loves snow, she can't get enough of it. She jumps, and spins, and does little bunny hops on our walks, and loves to sniff by burying her nose right in it (funny sight). I love all animals, but I have to say, that there definetly is something about greyhounds that make you addicted to them...lol!
