I was out with Rocky tonight on our evening walkas we turned down this one street not far from us was this woman walking her mid size dog. As I started down the street the woman had her dog on one of those leashes where they extend she saw us and quickly pulled the dog in and turned around to walk the other way. As she was walking alway from us she kept looking over her shoulder to see how far away from us we were and headed into a what I imagine to be her house. It was clear she did not want to be anywhere near us. I was hurt. Rocky on the other hand had no clue as he pranced and I do mean pranced with his ears perked up and that funny grey smile they get on their faces, seriously how could you be intimidated or scared by such a loving adorable face. I know that there is other people who have experienced similar situations but I truly did not believe I would be one of them. As I was going along the back of the block I saw her come out of her house with her dog again and head out the way she was originally gone with her dog. I was appaled and disgusted don't judge before you get to know!!!!

Funny, but I avoid other dogs all the time. Especially the little, fluffy demons on a leash people refer to as dogs. Rex will be trotting along on a leash right next to me. While the little ankle bitters in my neighborhood are pulling their owners like mad, veering back and forth on the sidewalk, barking up a storm. Now that is the dog to avoid. It feels so good when we calmly pass the unruly dogs and I see the owner cower in embarrassment attempting to get some control over their animal. Maybe the woman that avoided Rocky had one of those dogs she could not restrain. By the way, Rocky is such a sweetheart, congratulations! Would love to see pictures of him enjoying his retirement.

Yeah, it's too bad more people don't give them a chance, they're such gentle dogs. But a lot of people just see "big dog + teeth", *sigh*
Maybe her dog is dog aggressive? Or maybe she was insulted by a greyhound in a past life?
Have you taken Rocky up to Morrison Dam for a walk yet? There's some nice, wider, trails up through there. You can actually walk there from the dam in town, but it's fairly distant (country "block"). There's also Klopp Memorial Forest on the highway just east of Zurich, nice trail, but lots of mosquitos. Also spotted a coyote in the field next to it not too long ago.

Yes my mom said the same thing to maybe her dog was the agressor. But my Rocky is such a sweetheart true he doesn't like the ankle biters and whines when we pass them more so because I say no just keep walking and I truly think he is saying c'mon mom just let me have a little snack. Yes he has been to Morrison Dam and loves it out there lots for him to look at and as usual he prances along just loves to be outside doesn't matter where. will get pictures as soon as the hubby gets them loaded onto the computer and then we learn how to get them on to the gra forum. he truly is enjoying retirement and lays on his big bed and loves when you snuggle up to him and lay with him. He is my big suck. so in love with him

I am a dog avoider as well...I know Charm wouldn't be polite about showing her desire to eat those yappy, fluffy little ones and she's none too pleased about meeting any other dogs except a pack of her own kind. So, with "cookies" in my pocket for rewards to keep walking past them, we simply cross the street. (Idon't mind people keeping their distance..makes me feel safer anyway)

I was born in Exeter, next time I go there I will add a sign "Birthplace of Ghoundcrew..." Morrison Dam was an area my family frequented since we were poor and had to make our own fun of catching frogs, fishing and playing eye spy with my little eye....
Haven't been there in many years......I know how you feel about people with other dogs walkig away, my Smitty is ripped and looks like a red Doberman when he walks with his ears up. Funny thing is, Stinger is the one you need to watch out for, he is known as the dog whisperer...

we often cross the street for dogs around the same size as a greyhound as digby can get a little feisty. hopefully this person was avoiding you because of her own dog and not because she thinks greyhounds are always aggressive though.
