It's no secret that I pretty much spend all day (at work or at home) thinking about my dogs. My non-dog friends think I need help, my dog friends think I'm normal. LOL But once in a while, I stop and think on the little things that they do that just makes my heart swell... little endearing things that are unique to them. They each have these quirks... so share yours too!
Atlas ... the way he walks just tickles me. He retired because of a broken hock and as a result, when he walks, he shuffles. I can hear him walking down the hallway to my room. He's my little old man shuffling down the hallway in slippers coming to see what I'm up to. Yes, he checks on me if I'm not in the same room as him.
Orion... he carries himself like he's the king of the world. Always so proud looking... head held high. He has an even gait when he walks, yet to watch him run is laughable. Legs flailing all over, ears flopping.
Echo... she's supposed to be a senior, but I don't think she's realized that yet. She'll roach on the couch and if you walk near her, she'll stretch out her front legs and beg for pets. When you rub her tummy, she'll get totally silly and start doing her "flippy thing" where she rocks back and forth on the couch (roach, on her side, roach, on her side, etc).
and Uber... what a crazy boy he is. His energy is infinite, but yet, he has a soft sensitive side. When I was sick on Wednesday, he stood up from his usual post on the bed, walked over to my side and lay down 1/2 on me, 1/2 beside me and laid his head across my chest breathing softly against my neck.
What more can I say? The breed amazes me, they have an intelligence I have never seen in a dog before and are so in tune with their humans.

I love to share stories about the boys. Jen, your story of Atlas reminds me a little of Jack. He doesn't have a broken hock, but a bad back. As a result, the way he transfers his weight to his feet gives him a very distinct gait - very slow and very flat footed. We can hear him coming a mile away!! Because he is a little lame, once he makes his way to the bedroom, he cannot lift himself up onto the bed without assitance. This is how he lets us know he's ready for his boost: Just looking at Stuey makes my heart swell. Truthfully, he is REALLY adorable, and just about anything he does makes DH and I go "awwwwww." He is our spook, and will only approach a new situation after he's sure a piano hasn't dropped on Dave's head. He has this look.. a look he gets on his face everytime he thinks the sky is about to fall (literally several times a day). These are some examples of Stu's "I see dead people" look: Dave is our stoic, serious boy. He is the exact opposite of Stuey. He is brave around new situations and people, and has the steadiest temperment of any grey I've met. He does not concern himself with fireworks or thunderstorms. He is also the most laid back of our group. His moto is to "live and let live." DH and I like to tell people Jack is our alpha, but Dave is our home's TRUE alpha. Yet, despite his rank and size, he allows the other boys to throw tantrums and boss him around. He really can't be bothered, and it amazes me how he chooses to pick his battles. He has at least one trait I find really quite something. He seems to know that all play belongs outside. He will occasionally pick up a stuffy, but he saves his flips and zoomies for outdoors. In the two and a half years we've had him, I can't think of one instance where he's given us a play-bow indoors. Here he is outside in "play-mode"

What lovely tributes to these wonderful dogs of yours! I so relate to this comment of yours, jiffer: The breed amazes me, they have an intelligence I have never seen in a dog before and are so in tune with their humans. They have a sophistication their intuitive intelligence gives them like no other dog I've seen. It is constantly amazing to me. There is nothing else like a greyhound! That "moment" for me is when I see Gigi watching me sometimes, and she makes direct eye contact and then softens her gaze. I'm done for...

There is no better way to describe our boy Jack than goofy. He is especially entertaining when we are getting ready to go out for a walk. We are pretty sure he believes that if his nose can fit in a space than the rest of him can follow. I don't think Jack has any idea of just how large a being he is (85 lbs). As we get ready to go out he will start to do tighter and tighter circles around our legs his big body following his little nose into tight corners. Yesterday as we were getting ready to go for a stroll Jack walked himself head first into the wall. He just stood there looking so stunned with an expression on his face as if to say "why did you make me do that?" We couldn't stop laughing. He also stacks his stuffies at the door so that one day they will be lucky enough to perhaps make a break for it when the door is open. For these and many other reasons our big boy is just so asbolutely adorable. Our little girl Bonnie on the otherhand is much more dignified in everything she does. She is my special little girl that trots over to my side of the bed at 5:30am every morning to receive scritches and then goes back to bed until we get up about half an hour later. She is always ready to remind you where she likes to be patted and will reach out for you, as you pass her by on the couch, as if to ask for her much deserved/earned scrtiches bewtween her forelegs. Bonnie is our only roacher and she'll lie on her back until you feels you have adored her enough. She is our little primadonna and we love her to bits for it.

There are so many things about Hobbesy that I love. One thing that came to mind is how he pretends to be so indifferent to petting and snuggling until we stop. We will give him cuddles and pets and all the while he lays there with out a sound or showing any emotion. The second we stop or ignore him he will act all cute rubbing his nose with his front paws, roaching and whining. When we resume loving on him he goes back to the I can take it or leave it face. It makes me laugh every time.
I also wanted to add, the thing that really chokes me up, is when we are sleeping (he sleeps with us on the bed) he always puts one of his front paws on either my DH or me. He will place it either on our heads or across our chests. I think it gives him comfort to know we are there with him. It's really special to me because it took him such a long time to form this bond and trust us completely.

I know what everyone is talking about they just melt your heart when they look at you with those big brown eyes. I was never in love with big dogs until I saw them at the Bayfield christmas parade and that was it I fell in love with the greyhounds and had to have one. We got Rocky six weeks ago and everything about him melts my heart or makes me laugh out loud. Especially when it is chow time and we let his food soak some water up so he doesn't wolf it down and then bring it back up. for the entire time whatever I am doing he walks behind me rooing like hes saying come on is it time now. Or when he is laying in his crate at bedtime and tou can hear him sighing like I've had such a long exhausting day. I just love him so much. My friends at work think I'm nuts but I think if they went to the farm and brought one home they too would see the never ending love these animals have for you. Just because

That's funny, I was just thinking about this the other day Roxie has such an intelligent face, and often waits for an invitation to come over for lovings. She waits patiently for us to get up and out of bed in the morning and make the bed, waiting to hear "OK" and that means she can get up and take over the bed for the rest of the day. Oscar loves his scritches and pushes his face straight up your body so you can scratch his head and he can look into your eyes and sigh. We back onto the park and his "job" is to watch for dogs in the park - when he sees one he lets out a woof or two with his tail wagging then runs up on the deck to "tell us" about the dog in the park. We thank him and he goes back to take up his post until he has to tell us about the next dog. I love these guys!
