Hi everyone, I joined this forum yesterday so I thought I'd introduce myself properly on this thread. I live in Guelph and am settling into a new career, new home (in fall 2008) and am also looking to add a loving greyhound to my small family of two - me and my 7 yr old cat Tucker. I've known for many years that I wanted to adopt a rescue dog but being a graduate student for seemingly forever, moving for various jobs and living in rented apts just weren't right. Now my job is settling in nicely, and I have just signed papers for my first home! It won't be ready until late Sept this year but I am counting the days!!! Once I get unpacked I plan to take a few weeks off for my holidays and work on the canine addition to my family. I'm happy to have found this forum and have already learned a lot just from reading postings. Looking forward to learning more! In the months ahead, I'm researching, preparing and hoping that I can find the right greyhound for me! GRA seems like a great (or should I say greyt) place to look! Thanks and see you on the boards. I'm off to work now. Lisa in Guelph, Ontario

That would be great! I'd love to meet your troop! Cambridge is nice and close by too. Once I have my dog we can have a little meet up group. For the last year, I have been volunteering with the dogs at the local Humane Society. That is how I have been getting my "doggy fix". I've always thought greyhounds were lovely dogs, and having volunteered at the shelter, I've met lots of great pups, but to be honest, in hindsight, the ones that I have been most fond of have been greyhound mixes. Just lovely dogs - with big hearts to match their stature. Back to work I go. Shh don't tell myboss. Lisa

Hi again Tina, I hope you don't think this too forward but there is another Humane Society volunteer that I know that, after she has finished her university studies, is also interested in adopting a retired greyhound. I think she would be interested in meeting your greyhound family too if you don't mind another greyhound fan coming to visit. She is a sweet bubbly young lady. Lisa

Haha! Thanks for the warning/tip! I've heard greyhounds are like chips, you can't have just one! I'll pace myself though. My cat would mutiny if I took on more than one dog at a time I think. I'm really looking forward to meeting Tina and her clan. Are there others with greyhounds in the KW/Cambridge/Guelph/Wellington area or are you all spread out all over Ontario? Marco? Lisa

Hi Jiffer, I saw your update on the Adoptables list. You be sure to keep an eye for an arrival of a sweetie pie for me later this year. I'd hope for one on the list right now but I wouldn't want one of those lovely dogs waiting all those months for a home, so I'll just hope for a later arrival - that is much more optimistic! I had better go run to work now - Saturday shifts - ugh! Lisa

Lisa we have a play group in Waterloo that meets on weekends when the weather is OK. Ask Tina for info, she knows all about it. We would like to see you out there when you get your pup or before if you would like to come out and see them run.
