There's a bit of a space crunch at the kennel these days, and a few greys are in foster homes. Jessie--the first girl in the Adoptables list--is with me.
Actually, Bill suggested that I adopt her (she's the same age, she's very sweet, she'll fit, you should really meet her), but I just kept saying No! But then he explained about the space crunch, so I agreed to pick her up. She's been here for a week.
Jessie raced for some years (there's a two-year gap in her greyhound-data history; see P's Real Time), and retired in the spring of 2003. She was adopted through GRA. She was returned to the kennel a few weeks ago, after being in a home for four years or so. She is 8; her 9th birthday is on Nov 21. She's a dark brindle. She's about the same height as Betsy and Edie, but is finer boned, and is just 56 lbs (I think she's lost a bit since she arrived; she probably should be about 58 lbs).
As Bill said, she is a sweet girl who fits perfectly. She's OK in the car, doesn't mind her crate (and often hangs out in one--but not her own), gets along with all my girls, ignores the cats, doesn't pull on lead, enjoys meeting people and dogs, and loves attention without being a pest. I think she's pretty bright. Although she's still not settled in, I think she might be a bit of a monkey. But she's not destructive--I was given her stuffie, which still has button eyes (I've put it away so it remains whole). And she's a major-league chatterer.
Here are some pics of Jessie.
The pic from the GRA Adoptables thread:
In the car on the way home:
In my office; clockwise from left, Betsy, Cora, Minnie, Piper, and Jessie:
Hanging out in Cora's crate:
Wanting me to continue her tummy rub (in Piper's crate). She'll get a much-needed dental when she's adopted:
In the yard, not wanting to pose:
"OK, I'll pose, but I won't look at you."
"Nor will I put my ears up."
"Not even if you pay me. Mmmmm, that's tasty."
She's beautifully put together (Cora--who is built like a lab--is in the background):
And, unlike my broodies when they arrived, has some muscle in her butt:
She's still a bit flat emotionally, but she does know how to smile:
And, as I said, I think she may be a bit of a monkey:
But really, she's just looking for her new human:
"Are you my new Mom?"
I'm hoping that one of my neighbours will adopt her. I started with four prospects. Some have dropped out, but there are a few new possibilities. Both my groomers and vet clinic staff are looking too.
Or maybe Bill will just forget that she's here. ;D
