Doe snayoen have expericne with obedicien shcool called "Canine Concepts" in London area?
Has anyone had luck training at home? Barkley is pretty well behaved, she walks nicely, is not too bad for counter surfing and usually comes when called....if there is nothing more interesting going on.
So really we want to teach her sit, down, stay, and to come more reliably...which maybe we could do at home? I cannot figure out how to get her into a "sit" or "down" as none of the suggested ways work with getting her into the position....
Any thoughts appreciated!

Hi Nic We had Vegas out to K9 Concepts for their level one training. He was kind of an aloof grey, and since we lost him so soon after we finished the training it was hard to tell what he really learned. We had a young teacher named Jessica who just adores all dogs but seemed to take right away to Vegas and Jeanie when we had her there for daycare a couple of times. I took some of the things I learned with Vegas and tried them with Jeanie. She will not sit but lies down on command. She still counter surfs when we are not home but that is entirely my fault for leaving temptation in her path. The only thing that I thought was funny was that their training dog is a agility border collie who would do anything she asked him to and Vegas could care less if I was in the room. This little dog was craving approval and the big grey was like, "Yeah, whatever." Anyway, super nice people. I don't think they are greyhound specialists but they do know the breed and their limitations (not sitting right away, recall is sometimes iffy). I would have taken Jeanie if they hadn't moved all of their training to east London (we are in Talbotville right across the street from the day care)

The only thing I will warn is any place that insists you use a prong choke collar and refuses to allow you to use the martingale collar is not a place for greyhounds. The prong collars are dangerous for any breed of dog and, personally, I don't agree with using pain to teach. Lacking in that, try them out and see what you think.

I think it's difficult to train a breed or a dog that doesn't really care about pleasing people. I took a borzoi through obedience classes and she did really well in the classes - was a star. But, she failed graduation. She got bored with the long down and sat up and laid down during the long sit. When we went to a practice match, she did the heel free once around the ring and then walked out of the ring. It's worth doing some obedience training though, because she did do more of what she was asked to do even though we couldn't do obedience competitions.
