These are pictures of Jana at the agility trial last week. My camera doesn't do action shots so a lot of them were too blurry to use. Also, my pictures are bit too big and the text stretched out under them. I couldn't figure out how to "fix" which means you have to scroll back and forth to read it. Sorry.
This course was called Steeplechase. There were 19 obstacles for a total of 145 yds and a maximum course time of 44 seconds.
We started with a run of 4 jumps to the tunnel. I worked her on the left side to block her from going into the wrong end of the tunnel. Notice that I left her at the first jump and called her from the second jump to give me a bit of a head start.
She has come out of the tunnel and I was already running. This is a curved 4 jump run. You can see that she is really running fast. Notice that now we are working with Jana on my right side.
This is the last jump in that 4 jump run and just before the A-frame.
Jana is coming down the A-frame. The dogs have to touch that yellow area at the bottom or else they are disqualified. Its a safety issue. The frame is where we lost time because I had to go around it and she followed me, so we went back 3 times. It isn't counted as a fault as long as she does it, but it cost us time - about 40 seconds of it.
There was a jump after the frame, and then we did the weave poles. She has to enter the weaves with her left shoulder and weave in and out to the last one. There were 12 poles. From there we had 2 jumps back to the tunnel. Notice we are working on the left again.
After the tunnel we went back over those 2 jumps to the weave poles. Then 1 last jump and we were done.
Jana ran a happy, spirited run without any faults to take points off. There were a lot of dogs with more experience that messed up, particularly in the weaves. The nonsense at the frame was because she didn't understand what I wanted (I think). We missed a lot of practices when my Dad was sick. I'm proud of how well she did under the circumstances. Would I try Steeplechase again - maybe. I almost died from running so hard.
