The GRA picnic was a huge success .... a greyt turnout of old and new parents and their beautiful greyhounds, several vendors who apparently did very well, an excellent raffle table with the best of the best raffle donations, a delicious BBQ of hamburgers, sausage, and hot dogs, a bake table with a masterpiece of paw cupcakes, to mention a few.
This year the venue for the picnic was held just east of the GRA kennel. It was perfect being able to entertain all the families and hounds in one area with a large field for parking vehicles. Eventually the field became full and the roadway became an extra parking lot.
The weather was perfect, slightly cool and overcast.
Once the raffle started, hounds and their parents grabbed a spot under the huge shade trees.
A different view of the crowds of people and their hounds.
Tisa Lekic (left) and Heather Main (sitting) did a fantastic job of announcing the winners of the raffle donations. I heard there were 50 beautiful donations this year for the raffle table. It was difficult making a choice where to put your tickets as the donations were all so well done.
Keeping to tradition, there was a greyhound costume contest. The hounds strutted their stuff for everyone to see and then the winner was announced (which I didn't hear ). If someone can help me out, I will enter the info. The hounds looked awesome regardless of who won.
This beautiful girl is Hilda Hambone, one of the awesome greyhounds from Florida who has found her Forever Family. While Hilda was cooling off in the pool, she was singing her song .... what a greyt girl. Hilda's family have also recently adopted Raphael now known as Raphey, also from Florida.
Sally Blossom (left) and Olive were enjoying their walk around the property. Sally is with her Mom and Olive is with her new friend, Joe.
And last but definitely not least, at the end of the festivities, Heather called on all the volunteers who help out at the kennel in so many different capacities. The GRA community is so fortunate to have these amazing folks donate their time to help the greyhounds make their transition from the race track to adoption kennel and onto their Forever Homes much easier. We could never do without our amazing volunteers ...
As posted on GRA FB, the picnic/raffle brought in just over $4,000.00 .... just goes to show the amazing support and generosity of this wonderful GRA community. New central air conditioning will be applied to the recently installed new furnace so the hounds will be comfortable in this summer's heat, the dog run will have the current gravel removed and new sand installed so they'll have a better play time area, and any remaining funds will go towards the health and happiness of those hounds in waiting.
It truly was an awesome day ..... thank you so much GRA CANADA !
