how did you all find last night - we had a pretty bad electrical storm go through about 4am - i thought i got out of bed in time to prevent any major "accidents" from rainy - but i was too late - i cleaned up and he settled after about an hour - after i layed (spelling?) on a couch where he could be beside me on the floor - poor guy just goes crazy! - i realize i should just ignore him, but it just can't - but i have progressed to the point where i don't baby him through a storm, i'm just nearby - it seems to comfort him a bit because until i can get upstairs to him, all we hear is constant running around, panting, drooling and whimpering - - - - - gave me an excuse to have a nap this morning! - janis

Best thing to do is relax yourself, turn the TV on (loud if possible to hide the noise), snuggle him with a blanket and snuggle in for the storm. If you have a basement den/family room, hunker down there, the depth tends to be soothing to them. My parent's shih-tzu hides behind the toilet when the thunder comes. I've also heard of other greys who like to hide in the bathroom, even the bath tub. I read something about them being able to sense the grounding effect of the plumbing.

The first summer that she was here, Betsy was very nervous about thunderstorms. I would sit near her, but not touch her. The second summer, she was fine with thunderstorms, but nervous about fireworks. Background noise (The Weather Channel, because that's what they hear most often ), wrapping her in a blanket, and my presence (again, not touching her)) helped. I also used Benedryl, but that's easier for fireworks because the peak day/time are fairly predictable. Edited to add: She was pretty good about this morning's thunder. There was one sudden loud isolated clap at 10:13 am that got her (and Edie) to the window, but otherwise both were fine.

Hope woke us up every hour on the hour over the night. The storm did not hit us til morning. Hope is still terrified of the thunder. Hotwire and Connor barely lift their heads. It is very unfortunate that we were out of Rescue Remedy. It does seem to help take the edge off for Hope.

I got home around 7 am this morning during the storm here and I found Tigger sprawled out on the bed watching the storm from the window.
