Has anyone heard of or been to McCann's Obedience school. We're off to check it out this weekend. Zuzu goes absolutely bezerk with excitement when we come home, wake up, go out for a walk, leave her to go the bathroom. You get it anything where we leave her for only a moment she acts like we have been gone for a week. She actually goes out of control and it is a matter of time before she hurts herself. We need some professional help. Other than this she is great. I think she would love to go to school.

All my girls have done many courses at McCann. They love it. Betsy is currently in Grade 4, and actually starts to whine when we get close. (Edited to add: Betsy is not usually a whiner. Unlike Edie.)
McCann is a very reputable school. It isn't cheap, but it's very good.
Full disclosure: I've recently joined their apprenticeship (trainer training) program.

Thanks. That's good to hear. We are going to visit tomorrow and I think we will end up there. Zuzu is a red (looks more fawn) grey if you see us make sure to say hi. Thanks for the feedback.

sunny has known how to sit on command since we got him - he doesn't like to do it though - rainy hasn't got a clue and i have no reason to teach him - they both will sit in the snow - i have no idea why - but it looks really silly! - janis

Greyhounds certainly can learn to sit. However, if you prefer not to go that route, there are alternatives like "place" (which means "continue to stand").
I wanted mine to sit, because it's a very handy posture in training. Betsy does not sit on her own, but she has learned. Edie has a natural sit, but resisted putting it on command. Both now sit when requested. However, if we're doing an awful lot of sitting in class (waiting for instructions, or because of the sequence of exercises), I'll let them stand or down for some exercises so they don't get too sore or restless.
I won't be at McCann on Saturday, but I'll certainly be greeting any greyhound that I see there.
As for sitting in the snow--maybe they're cold. Edie sits when she's cold.

All three of our boys can sit. It was our choice to teach them to do so since we find it easier to use the "nothing in life is free" (or NILIF) system. They sit before being fed, before being let out into the yard (we find this calms them all down a little since they can't burst out the door), and before any treats. Jack and Stu learned fairly easily. Dave took a couple of months before he'd do it on command. At first I thought he looked REALLY uncomfortable, to the point where I almost felt sorry for him. It's not a natural position for them, and they do look really awkward at first. However, all of them sit like pros now (inside the house at least.. LOL). Zuzu might surprise you!

It's grown a lot since I started attending 8+ years ago. I like it enough there that I drive from SW Mississauga. Did you watch a class?

Hi
Glad to hear that they can sit. We'll see if Zuzu can.
We did watch a class. I believe it was a grade 1 class. I was very impressed. We are from North West Mississauga. 401 and Winston Churchill so it is a bit of drive but one well worth it I think.
