I know it is terribly cold out there but I sure miss hearing about your pups - are they all hibernating? Since I lost Gable and Liza recently, my Angels sent me a message to walk neighbourhood pups (Angel Liza wants me to look after her boyfriend, Duke an Irish Setter) so that is what I am doing to help with the healing.

I am so glad to hear that you are finding some comfort through pet therapy. I'm sure your pups are happy that you are walking Duke and I'm happy for Duke too, I'm sure he misses your pups too.
Lanny has been keeping it pretty low key lately, just taking lots of naps next to the woodstove. He still enjoys his speed trips around the backyard and in these cold temps he has certainly developed speed potty breaks outside...greys are fast at everything! I will have to download some pics to share as I have taken a few this winter. He still joins me at the end of the lane to get the kids off the bus...he wears boots, two coats and a scarf...unless we are just waiting in the car for them...then he just wears one coat. He and Cedar have discovered where the wild bunnies have nested down for the winter so they occasionally play groundhog in one of the bushes but so far the rabbits have out smarted them.
Take care and give Duke lots of love.

We're just trying to keep warm at our house. Finn will snuggle anyone anywhere but T is a little more stingy. We snapped these last weekend. And below is Finn's new thing, laying like this. It reminds me of the old poster of the kitten hanging on the wire with the words "hang in there baby" written underneath. I hope these make you smile.

It must feel endless for you these days... the cold and dull of this prolonged winter does not help in coping with such a difficult time in your life. I am glad that you find it helpful to walk Duke. I know that Liza is happy that you are keeping him connected with you, and with her through you. And I know that Gable is alongside in spirit. Your walks are with Duke but in the company of your two Angels too. Our home and our schedule is pretty predictable at the best of times. The routine right now, however, has changed a bit from "Walk Time" causing a happy, jumpy, group and a flurry of helicopter tails at the door to the same call followed by the question "Where is everybody?" and looking for the most cozy hiding spot where they may be. Totally selective hearing and/or just totally fed up with the cold, the boots, the coats, etc.. Can't say I blame them. But once we all get bundled up and outside, and the sights, sounds, and scents take hold, it is sometimes difficult to get them turned around for home after mission is accomplished. So I guess you could say it is a love-hate relationship for them and winter . I am walking our Beagle separately now as his endurance in the cold is not as long as Light and Joker's. He turns 15 in two weeks but you would never know it. Since Light and Joker have entered his life, he now plays with squeeky toys (never did before) and he runs around the house like a pup. Our cat has recently turned 15 too, and she is also very young in spirit. Not so much in play but she 'talks' continuously..probably telling us all about "...OMG..what Joker did" and all that happens in their day-to-day world while I'm at work. I have been missing the activity here on the Forum as well, and want to thank you for putting forward this invitation to share with others the latest. I will enjoy reading each and every one too.

Gable and Liza's mom, I feel your pain....I had to have my beautiful little Buck put down on Jan 15....I think the day after had your little baby put down....I still have my other Grey...the Beabs so that keeps me walking and outdoors...but I love to hear stories about the healthy pups! I know everyone is different but I am starting to think about getting another grey....my situation is a bit complicated because the Beabs has diabetes and we are trying to get that regulated.....but I always check the available dogs ....but then I just really just want my Little Buck back...

I'm so glad you are walking Duke as it must bring some comfort and joy. And of course being an Irish Setter owner myself I know how silly and whimsical they can be so I hope he is making you laugh.
Similar to Lanny above, Owen has also perfected the speedy potty break. He HATES this weather. He seems to like the snow, but not the bitter cold. This is his first winter outside of Texas or Florida and he's not impressed. Glad he has finally grown a full rump of hair, no more baboon butt. He needs that warmth now as his coat doesn't cover his rear end. Today when he came inside he was bleeding from one foot, he has a bad scrape, possibly from the icy snow in the yard. It's amazing how fragile their skin is. But I'm sure he will be fine - he did his living room zoomies to use up some energy and now he's lying on the bed til morning.
We just passed the first anniversary of losing my Sunshine (Irish setter) and in a few days it will be first anniversary of losing my Oscar (lab), we had a horrible start to 2014 and although our beloved dogs can never be replaced there are always more out there waiting to be loved. How wonderful that you and Duke are healing each other, as I'm sure he misses his girl too.

I check out the forum on a nightly basis and usually don't see much that is new but last night I saw that new posts had been made .... only trouble was I was too tired to do any more posting. My day starts at 0500 ... I'm weaning Olive from her night time crate so am bringing her into bed with me at five a.m. She has been very good but insists on sleeping on top of me.
As I was reading Daylight's remarks about walking Duke and having both your Angels Gable and Liza tagging along with you in spirit brought me comfort, I hope it will for you too. You know your beautiful Angels (spirits) continue to live on in your heart.
BeaandBuck's mom ... I'm so sorry to hear about your sweet little Buck's passing. My heart goes out to you for I know that pain well. Hugs to you and your Beabs.
Loved all your photos Barb and Jason. So cute how their snuggling is keeping everyone warmer.

I agree that walking Duke is a wonderful way to honour Liza and Gable and to heal your heart. After our first grey, Jack, passed I swear I used to feel his presence out on our walks with his grey sister Bonnie. It was definteily a time to commune with his memory and exercise is always a greyt way to beat the blues. I think that at some point you mentioned that you were considering another grey when the time was right. Please keep us posted if you do end up being adopted again. If not I'm sure there are lots of people in your neighbourhood that would take you up on walking their pups. If you were in Toronto you would be welcome to come walk Tarra and Finn.

Thank you all for replying to this post - it sure helps heal the pain as I know a lot of you have been through it. Angels Gable and Liza are always with me in spirit and I know that they will tell me when it is time to welcome a new pup to take over their beds. One of the neighbours up the street called me a "Fashionista" and I guess I looked at him puzzled as I was all bundled up from head to toe. Well, he thought I was this Fashionista because every time he saw me "I had a different dog". Again, thank you for all for taking the time in updates as to what your pups are up to.

It's wonderful you have a pup to share your love with. When we lost Mr Max I went to the kennel one day and walked some pups and it felt so wonderful.
Thunder and Bruce are hanging out by the fire. They take quick bio breaks and settle quickly onto their fireplace pillows. When it gets to minus single digits Thunder starts egging Bruce on. Show me what you got race boy!!! They run and run and come in all happy. That's been limited these days. Bruce occupies himself by moving boots, shoes, leashes, toys, pillows and blankets!

Terrible to say but we've been mostly hibernating! With it being so cold, Holly and Bently have been content to just go out in the yard a few times a day to do their thing and run around a bit. But they are quick to come in after a couple of minutes! I remember after we lost our first grey, Deva on Dec. 30, 2008, we spent a long winter without a dog...we needed a greyhound fix and ended up adopting Bella in the spring (not sure how we made it that long!!!) You are doing a wonderful thing for Duke - I think any dog companionship will do you good - especially if you feel s connection to your pups by doing it!
