Ok, it has taken over a year and a half but one of our greys, Murph, has discovered the buffet featuring cat turds (aka litter boxes). I cannot keep him away now! I try very hard to only reward the positive and not 'yell' and my fur-kids but I am running out of ideas here...The only thing I can think of is cutting a cat door into the door of the laundry area...the only problem with that is that I am renting and would have to replace the door. Does anyone have and experience/ideas/advice on this subject matter?

Put a babygate across the door, but about a foot off the ground. It will allow kitty to go in but keep Murph out. I've also heard some people have had success with a covered litter box.
Orion once found a kitty turd in our backyard and decided a treat that good should be enjoyed in the living room. ... YUCK!

I had a wire partition made up by a rabbit cage maker (I have rabbits as well). He cut a hole near the bottom and put rabbit guard (a plastic type material) around the edges of the hole to protect the cats. They go through the hole with no problem. I opted for a wire partition because the litter box is in my bathroom and I need the heat from the hot air register to leave the bathroom so that my bedroom is not ice cold.
You could make a wooden partition and cut a hole a couple of inches above the bottom, sand the edges to make them smooth, and the cat(s) can go in and out with no problem. The partition could be 4 feet high. You could use hooks and eyes to fasten the partition to the door frame or depending on which way the door opens, cut it wider than the frame and lean it against the door opening.
This has worked for me as my bouviers love the lure of cat poo and Valerie has picked it up from Matt. It is difficult to remove the cat poo before the dog spots it because you would have to follow the cat all the time.

As a further thought, Multiplicity, my rabbit cage maker is just north of Waterloo. If you want to contact him, let me know and I can forward his information to you.
