I know we always talk about greyhounds inhaling their food and my two have always done this.
This may seem odd that I'm concerned, but Mayleigh has significantly slowed down her pace at which she eats her food. I can now fully hear her chewing each mouthful she takes. She's never done this before, and she has been like this the last couple of days.
Should this be a concern of mine? Everything else seems normal with her - she's not lethargic, she still gets very excited about food or treats.
She is probably my most food motivated dog, so it seems weird that she's been the last to finish eating lately (by a minute or two). She always starts out with a steady pace and slows throughout the meal.
Just wanted some advice from you guys, and if people have had similar situations? Should I see my vet regarding her teeth? Do we think she's in pain?

If she was my dog I'd take her to the vet and get her mouth/teeth checked out. Then if all that was ok I'd ask the vet's advice on what might be going on and where to check next. On the occasions when my greyhounds have had to have teeth out I've noticed they eat better afterwards as they are no longer in pain from teeth that had to be removed. Lottie had 3 tiny front teeth removed, Zak had a couple taken out and Gerry had one tooth removed.
There might be an abcess or other problem going on. Lottie had some weird lesions on her gums which required a biopsy/removal.

While I admire Helen's advice above, I'm thinking that if she had any pain she might vocalize it some how. Perhaps your girl has simply figured out the food will always be available. I've seen this with one of mine after a very long time of scarfing his food. He didn't have any problems, just finally learned some manners! M

We were going to take her in, but we figured we'd wait it out a few days just to see. She wasn't in any obvious pain, I tried touching her mouth, looked at her gums/teeth. Nothing seemed wrong (I know I'm not a vet, but just at a quick glance it looked like it always did).
Later that day, after I made this post, we went to the dog park, and she acted the same - eager to go, but by the end of the hour walk, she gets slow (lazy bum). Her first poop was normal. And her second was diarrhea. We took her home and withheld food that night to let her tummy calm down.
In the night she woke us up to go out and had diarrhea again.
We were planning to take her into the vet the next day if we could get an appt, but the next morning she was scarfing her food down again. I assumed it was because we withheld her food the night before, and she was just hungry. So I waited on calling for an appt just to see. We went to the dog park later that day and normal poop again..... It was so weird. Even her second poop was pretty normal.
That night she scarfed her food down again, and has been doing so ever since...
I kinda hoped she would have learned some manners, and I really hoped she wasn't sick. But I think all it was, was an upset tummy, and through it all, she wanted to keep being fed! I guess that's dedication to her love of food.....
Thanks for the advice though!
