Hey everyone I could use some of this forums knowledge on something. I noticed a few weeks ago a little lump on Callie's shoulder (around that area). It's gotten a little bigger since I first noticed it but not by much. To me it kind of looks like a pimple, it's hard and it does not seem to bother her at all and she does not seem to be limping. Iv'e tried to slightly press on it to see if anything would happen or if it would pop but nothing. I haven't taken her to a vet to be looked at yet. As anyone seen something like this before? Is this something that I should be concerned about? I kind of panic a little bit when I feel any lump because right away I think of the worse case scenario. Like I said it looks like a pimple to me but I have never had any experience with this kind of stuff before with a dog. I don't mind taking her to a vet to be looked at but I was waiting to see if it was getting bigger first. I might be a bit paranoid for no reason but any advice would be great. Here are pictures of what it looks like. It's a bit hard to see since it's not big but it could give you an idea.

it's very hard to tell when viewing a photograph but I have to say my first thought is, are you sure it's not a tick? M

I'm not so sure it is a tick ... I think if it were an engorged tick, it would be a darker color, probably larger in size and have a little give to it when pressed on. Mary gets these little pimples (different areas on her body), they feel and look similar to what you described and in her case they are nothing to worry about. In fact, Mary's will sometimes just fall off in time. They are more like little fatty growths but I can't remember what they are called. If you want to be sure it's not a tick, just take a pair of tweezers and very gently try to lift one end, then the other. As with a tick, only one end will be attached to Callie's skin. Also, ticks aren't so prevalent now and haven't been since at least mid July. They are active in the Spring when the weather is cool and damp, almost dormant during the hot humid drier July, August and September, then may become more active again in the Fall when the weather becomes cool and damp once more.
If I remember there was a post about these fatty tissue bumps sometime back in the Spring. Hope this helps ..... hugs to Callie.

I don't think it's a tick either. I have been trying to pop it and nothing comes out, I would have though that if it would have been a tick something might of happened. I have never seen a live tick since they are not very common around here and my dogs don't really go out in the bush/tall grassy area where I think they are more prone to catching them. Thank you for the feedback Angelollie. I will just keep an eye on it and if it keeps getting bigger I will bring her in to the vet to be examined.

I hope that Callie is fine and the lump has disappeared by now. Just wanted to share my experience with something that looked extremely similar to what you posted. Few weeks ago, just prior to Joker's annual exam, I noticed a lump on his side. Small, very firm, and almost the appearance of a hard 'blister'. It enlarged slightly over the week or so leading up to his appointment. When I showed it to the vet, she felt it was nothing serious but suggested aspirating to be sure. Turns out it was a benign histiocytoma. Unlike some you may see online or in the books, it can be (and was) skin-toned with no redness or inflammation. Joker's disappeared spontaneously (no treatment required) within 2-3 weeks of checking. Not saying that this is what Callie has, but there was such a similarity in appearance that I thought I would chime in on this. Best of luck and please keep us posted.

The lump is still present. It hasn't seemed to gotten bigger and like I mentioned it does not bother her. Will keep you posted on any updates. Thanks again

Lottie has had similar looking lumps to this. I boil some water and while it's still hot I get a bit of cotton wool, the pads are the best, and hold it over the spot. Then I squeeze it and stuff comes out and after a day or so it settles down to ordinary skin again. Might be worth a try?

Lumps and bumps are normal on these guys. They are very prone to sebaceous cysts which are just small skin growths that can sometimes be pimple like, and other times are just a hard nodule. I'd leave it and just watch to make sure it doesn't get large quickly. Next time you're in for a vet checkup, just have your vet take a looksee.
Uber has one of these on his hip.. has had it 8 years now and it's about the size of a marble. Miss Mo has one too on her shoulder about the size of the one you posted above.

It almost looks like some kind of wart. Teague has one on his inner leg. It is round, and hasn't changed over the years, so I don't worry. I would keep an eye on it, but right now it doesn't look too serious.
