Hi, we have had our 2nd rescue greyhound for 2 months now, up until the last couple of days she has been really good. The last few days she has been going to the toilet in the house, she is just 2 and has never done this. We did all the things we were told to do, and she soon learned. We can not understand why she is doing this now.
She is also a very scroungy dog, she gets in to the bins, and anything else she can get her paw's on !!!
She was eating Greyhound food, that we purchased from the trainer, but when we took her to the vet to register her, he told us to change to a brand he was selling, as she was a bit itchy, but nothing seemed to change. She is 33kg, so quite a big girl. She has 3 weetabix for breakfast, then has 6 handfulls of whole food and a can of dog food.
Any help would be greatfull.
Many thanks
Diddle.

A sudden change in potty habits can be a sign of her being anxious/stressed or she might possibly have a bladder infection. And as for her getting into everything, at 2 years of age, she is still a puppy and puppies get into everything. She also has probably never been in a home environment and now finds all these good things within her reach and helps herself. So it will be up to you to teach her some manners or make sure things are out of her reach. Greyhounds are smart and she will learn.
If you are not satisfied with the current kibble she is on, you could slowly introduce her to a different brand, possibly a lamb based kibble. Is she getting any supplements in her meals? Coconut oil (organic virgin) is an excellent supplement for a variety of conditions including itchy dry skin. Or you can add a tsp of olive oil to her meal which should help with itchy skin. But whatever you add, just do so a bit at a time working up to the preferred amount.
I hope this helps, please don't hesitate to ask about anything here on the forum.
Welcome and I hope you'll post photos of your sweet girl.

If she is suddenly peeing in the house it could very well be a urinary infection. Has the vet checked for that? If it is in her sleep, or seems involuntary, it could also be urinary incontinence which is quite common in spayed female dogs. It could also be from separation anxiety, but if she is normally fine, I would be looking into an infection/incontinence to rule that out first.
In terms of food, if you think she has allergies, I would cut out some of the variety and feed something simple for a week or two. I wouldn't feed the Wheetabix (wheat can be a common allergen) and just feed a basic limited ingredient diet, or simple homemade mix for a week. Where is she itchy, and how bad is it? It could also have nothing to do with food and just be an allergen from the environment, fleas, etc.
Good luck with your girl

Thanks for your replies, she certainly does need to learn some manners !! We had a dry day yesterday, so I guess it's just a case of keeping a eye on her.
I guess we were lucky with Space, our dog before Belle, he was a proper gent, she is still a pup, and yes it is all still new to her.
With regards to the food, she has always had a "cereal" for breakfast when she was in kennels, so I think we will stick with that, hopefully she is on the mend, thanks again, I will try and post some photos, do you have a FB page ?
I have only just realised you guys are in Canada ?
Thanks again.

It's the time of year for allergies. Ghost gets so itchy that he needs to go on meds. It's nothing to do with the food for him or my Leo. Benadryl can work. I can't remember the dose cause it doesn't work for Ghost. You can google or ask you vet. I think for a dog 50lbs and over its 50mg. Could it be allergies as its the season.

Yes, we are in Canada but don't let that stop you from posting. We have a great greyhound community here and help each other when problems or questions arise. So we certainly don't mind sharing information with you. In fact, we have a current member from the UK on our forum. I also used to be active on a UK site called greyhounds4me but found I just couldn't keep up with so many greyhound sites. I also have met in person Kevin Stow who is the Chairman of the Lincolnshire Greyhound Trust which is in the UK. Is that where you are from.

We are in the Cotswold's in a village called Bourton on the Water, we get our's from the Oxford Retired Greyhounds, I have always been around Greyhounds, my Dad has always owned them. Love them to bits, we are thinking of homing Belles brother, Ian who has just come up. Belle has made it to Dog of the day - www.facebook.com/pages/I-Love-My-Greyhound/596144133786475

Your Belle is gorgeous, I love the cow-doggies and congrats Belle for being Dog of the Day. Is Ian also a black & white? That would be so cool having a litter mate. We don't have greyhound racing in Canada per say so we have our retired racers sent up from Florida in the States. The hauler brings up 30-35 hounds which is a minimum 22 hour trip one way. Greyhounds are very popular in Ontario. Please keep us posted about Ian joining your family.
