A light has gone out at Camp Greyhound. Wednesday morning my boy Andy ( Iza Handy Boy) had to go to the bridge quite suddenly. He was 14.5 years old, having spent 7 of those years here with me. I remember back in 2007 I got a phone call asking if Andy could come and stay with me. He had been in the GRA kennel for 18 months and was a very spooky boy. I had been reluctant to adopt him earlier in the year because we were doing a big reno and I thought he would not do well, but I could not resist and home he came with me. He did not voluntarily leave his kennel for about a month, and when he finally did I offered him a man-cave in my closet too. He stayed spooky for quite a while, we called him Rainman and it really suited him. Over the years Andy unfroze and became a fixture here, he was always very good with the campers and was our resident life guard for years in the baby pools. I was excited this spring because it really looked like Andy was going to have another summer with us having fun in the pools, digging holes, and carrying on with the campers and his pack. But this morning after breakfast he quite suddenly could no longer walk so we had to say goodbye. He leaves behind a broken hearted mom and poor Bailey, who just turned 14 and is quite confused since we just lost Rocco too, along with Roy, Joey, Tempo and Gracie. He has joined many packmates (Rocco, Millie, Connie, Lou, Romi and Cody), trackmates and friends at the bridge, including Peaceful Dove (his soulmate), Sadie and Storm, Hobbs, Troy and many beloved camping buddies. You left with grace and dignity, but you left a huge hole. Run free sweet boy, til we meet again.

My goodness, 14 1/2 years.
I'm so sorry to hear about such a special fella making such an abrupt departure.
May the wonderful memories of Andy's "work" at camp greyhound bring smiles when the tears won't seem to stop.
RIP sweet Andy

How sad your place must be tonight, so much loss in such a short time. They are only ours to borrow and it is never long enough,
Run free sweet boy you will be deeply missed.

Karen, my heart aches for you in losing two of your precious boys. As I mentioned to you earlier you are one of the best greyhound mums around as you give your pack 100 times over all of your love. To-night step out on your back porch and there will be two stars shining brightly - one is Angel Rocco and the other is Angel Andy as they have joined the Greyhound Galaxy with all the other Greyhound Stars. Karen, they are free from pain and they both loved you and gave you their hearts.

I'm so very sorry. I remember seeing Andy at the 2007 picnic and thinking that he had potential. I was relieved when you agreed to take him. He belonged with you, and he knew it. He waited a while, but he got the perfect retirement he deserved.
Godspeed Andy.

I'm so sorry to hear of another passing in your family. Andy had an amazing life with you and his pack and at 14.5 years old, he was ready to continue his journey. If there's a little shining light in any of this ... is that Andy and Rocco will be together once more. And I do believe we'll see our beautiful Angels again.
Godspeed sweet Andy ....

My heart breaks for you Karen, to lose 2 dear souls in such a short time frame is unimaginable. But for Andy to have lived 14.5 years is a remarkable and a testament to the exceptional care you provided throughout his senior years. RIP dearest Andy, you have reunited with your pack members, your littermates and all the Camp Greyhound campers who have crossed the bridge before you.
Hugs to you Karen
