Rocco came to me accidentally back in 2012. I had been dropping a greyhound off at the GRA kennel, and I saw him sitting there looking fairly miserable. He'd been returned through no fault of his own 3 weeks before, and was not enjoying himself in the least. I took one look at him and asked Bill what he was still doing here, didn't anyone want to adopt him? Bill just looked at me, he knew by then what was going to happen, I was developing a reputation for adopting GRA returns. So Rocco came home with me, and has been part of the Camp Greyhound pack every since. Rocco knew how to have fun, and was one of the most single-minded hounds I've ever met when it came to food. Today when his eyes told me he'd had enough of dealing with his lumbar stenosis, I got him a steak, fed him some chicken breast and dehydrated treats, and fullfilled the promise I make to every hound in my pack: If you're not having fun anymore, you don't have to stay. Rocco left peacefully this afternoon after leaving his pawprints all over my heart. We'll miss you buddy, have fun with all our bridge angels til we meet again. Survived by Andy, Bailey, Joe, Tempo, Roy and Gracie. Welcomed at the bridge by Cody, Lou, Romi, Connie and Millie. Run Free sweet boy.

What a sweet face...run free Rocco with all your friends at the Bridge. Karen - you've put into words the kindest (and hardest!) promise we all make to our hounds.

Oh no. I am saddened to read this post. I remember when Rocco was first showing up in the kennel and how relieved I was when it was you who took him into your heart. I was thinking how confused he must be being returned to a kennel after so many years in a home. You gave him the best possible retirement for his last years as he could get. The fun he must have had with all your gang and you.
He was a lucky pup to have someone care enough to help him when he needed it the most. Our thoughts are with you.

I'm so very sorry. Rocco was a very special boy. I was so pleased when he went home with you to spend the last part of his retirement as a happy healthy boy.
Godspeed Rocco.

And again,... I am so saddened to hear about Rocco. He, too, was one lucky pup to share his richness of the years with you. And who on the Forum could forget those ears. May he and Andy, and all their greyhound pals at the bridge, be running with sheer abandon.
Godspeed Ripley Rocco.

When Rocco came to the kennel, I cried uncontrollably. He was an amazing hound and it made me extremely sad to see how sad he was. Imagine just how happy my sons and I were to hear Rocco was being adopted. Karen-I hope you know how amazing you are. These hounds you adopt are loved by you in their years you have them and they give you their hearts. Rocco's final years were spent being content in knowing he WAS loved. I'm sure they will remember and love you forever and always. Rest in peace, beautiful Rocco. You will be missed.

I'm so sorry to learn about the passing of Rocco. At 14 years old, he certainly was a senior but what a handsome senior he was. Just love his huge ears and the expression on his face in the photo you posted. Rocco had an unhappy time while back at the kennel, something he couldn't understand, but Karen, you took him home and loved him regardless. You made this boy's life complete.
Godspeed sweet Rocco ...

What a splendid retirement Rocco experienced with his final senior years at Camp Greyhound. He was such a handsome boy and those ears were truly remarkable. Karen, you somehow always appear in the nick of time for these dear souls and we are all so grateful to you as are the hounds that you open your door & heart to. Godbless you and Godspeed dear Rocco, may you play to your heart's content pain free with all the other bridge angels.
